“Sheer Bliss in Annapolis Royal”
Reviewed 3 July 2012

Coming into the beautiful little town of Annapolis Royal late this June, after
checking out a number of places, we ended up staying at the Garrison House Inn.
I had heard of the famous Annapolis Graveyard Tour while in Lunenburg and the location
of the inn right across from Fort Anne where the Tour takes place was a deciding factor.

We were greeted warmly at the door and shown a couple of rooms that were available.
We chose a lovely queen bedded room overlooking Fort Anne and made dinner reservations
for 7 having been assured we could easily make the Tour after we dined. Our room was a gem. A lovely mix of antiques, whimsy and practicality.

The dinner especially the House special of lobster and scallops in a light creamy basil sauce with, count them, 7 fresh vegetables, was really remarkable, with the seafood cooked with a light and very capable hand.

The wine list was very sound and reasonably priced. We loved it as did apparently our fellow diners sharing a screened verandah facing the sunset. The Tour was great fun, breakfast was admirable (remember when eggs cooked on the road were exactly the way you wanted them???) and we will definitely be returning here again when we visit this beautiful province.

We own an accommodation business near Annapolis Royal and we are often asked by guests for recommendations of where to eat. We had never dined at the Garrison House Inn until this week and we are happy to report that we had a fabulous meal! The food, atmosphere, and attentive staff made our meal a pleasure and we will happily and heartily be recommending the Garrison House Inn to our guests in the future. It's so nice to know that we have such fine dining available in our small town!

We stayed here for a few glorious warm days at the beginning of September and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The Inn is in a central location opposite the grounds of the fort, with everything in town a short walk away. That allowed us to soak up some local colour at a pub before returning to the Inn's restaurant for a fantastic meal featuring Digby scallops and lots of local produce. Innkeeper Pat Redgrave told us he's been featuring the 100-mile diet for 25 years but it's only become fashionable lately. Our plates were filled with a colourful medley of local vegetables, something you don't often get in Nova Scotian restaurants. We had a surprisingly good pinot grigio from Annapolis Highland vineyard, which is close by and worth a visit. The Inn itself is a lovely old building with a screened dining room addition. The rooms were quiet and comfortable but not frilly. All in all, highly recommended.

This restaurant was recommended by the owners of theTulip Tree. It was a short walk from the b&b, so we ventured out for dinner during our stay in Annapolis Royal. I am so lad that we did! The food was amazing! The lobster salad was the absolute best loser I have ever had. All of our food was well-presented, graciously served, and a measure to eat! Loved the local beers and wines, and homemade blueberry pie!!!

We stayed here with 5 adults and 4 children, and the staff were wonderful in addressing our needs. They had the rooms all prepared for us and since two of the kids were young this was great. Rooms were very clean, and the breakfast included the next morning was a choice of a hot or cold served breakfast and not a run of the mill continental breakfast. Amazing value for our money, unfortunately we were not able to try the evening dining room although we have heard it is amazing! We will definitely stay there again .
