The Garrison House Inn
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 September 2012

We stayed in the Garrison House Inn on Saturday, August 25, 2012 for one night. We enjoyed this charming B&B. We found it to be extremely clean and quite. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner on the screened porch. We highly recommend this as a destination. The stall was pleasant, courteous, and efficient. We hope to return for another stay some day.

My family and I have been visiting Annapolis Royal for years, and usually stop at the Garrison House for dinner. We have always walked away with a wonderful experience until this time (August 2012). While the staff and waitress were friendly and accommodating, we felt that for the first time, the food was extremely disappointing. For the steep prices, the portion sizes were extraordinarily small and the food was bland and unseasoned. The beets in the beet salad were canned and the Digby scallops were overcooked and rubbery. For a meal that cost $230 for a party of 5, we should not have had to return home to make our children "something to eat" before bed.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August 2012. We never met the owner, never was given any introduction to the "house", as in their service, breakfast times, there was never an opportunity to ask questions about the area. Because they function as a restaurant, much attention was given that by the staff. We did have a reservation for dinner there. We did not receive our meal for 1 hr and 40 min, and 7 other people received there meal before us even though they came in much later than we did. Our wattress was young, hardly checked on us, and we had to ask for bread even though everyone else around us had it promptly. The food was delicious we cannot deny. However, we chose not to order dessert because the service was so poor. The Inn is in a good location, it was clean, and the basics were provided. We came downstairs to check on coffee about 8 am and was told it was not ready and would not be untiil 8:30 am. We left and went to a local coffee shop because we wanted to get on the road to get to a reserved tour. We think that the owner is missing out by not also paying more attention to his customers. Afternoon tea could be offered...or set up a pitcher of water with lemons, or cookies and tea.

Room Tip: Don't stay higher than the second floor.

While we didn't stay at the Garrison House, we did dine there on the first night of our Nova Scotia vacation. It was the best meal of the trip, too. The service was great and the food devine. Highly recommended!

We spent one night at Garrison Inn on July 7th and were very pleased with our stay. The staff were very accommodating and efficient. This is one of the older Inns in Annapolis Royal and has a lot of character and charm. It is just across the street from Historic Fort Anne and withing walking distance of most of the attractions. We had a lovely dinner and the menu was varied and tasty good sized portions. Breakfast was offered in 3 formats, traditional egg, bacon and toast for us but fruit and yogurt were available. We highly recommend The Garrison House Inn if you are looking for a room for one or more nights while traveling in south western Nova Scotia.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor and it was well ventilated with an opening window for those who don't...

Coming into the beautiful little town of Annapolis Royal late this June, after
checking out a number of places, we ended up staying at the Garrison House Inn.
I had heard of the famous Annapolis Graveyard Tour while in Lunenburg and the location
of the inn right across from Fort Anne where the Tour takes place was a deciding factor.

We were greeted warmly at the door and shown a couple of rooms that were available.
We chose a lovely queen bedded room overlooking Fort Anne and made dinner reservations
for 7 having been assured we could easily make the Tour after we dined. Our room was a gem. A lovely mix of antiques, whimsy and practicality.

The dinner especially the House special of lobster and scallops in a light creamy basil sauce with, count them, 7 fresh vegetables, was really remarkable, with the seafood cooked with a light and very capable hand.

The wine list was very sound and reasonably priced. We loved it as did apparently our fellow diners sharing a screened verandah facing the sunset. The Tour was great fun, breakfast was admirable (remember when eggs cooked on the road were exactly the way you wanted them???) and we will definitely be returning here again when we visit this beautiful province.
