and the paninni was good, but i would get the chowder on a daily basis if i lived there, it had salmon, scallops and mussels and a little bit of dill, it was a rainy and chilly day and it certainly hit the spot. the chocolate was good but i have had better,

We enjoyed coffee here twice while visiting Annapolis Royal. We enjoyed our conversation with the very friendly owner. Coffee was good & OH, the handmade chocolate was so tasty. We enjoyed wandering around the shop, checking out the antiques and book selection. The window was opened, and we enjoyed the breeze off the water. Stop in & relax for a while and enjoy that delicious coffee and chocolate!

The name is somewhat misleading....it is a historical building once used as office for tall ship builders, it is a café with lovely chowders and panni, and croissant sandwiches, antique books from estate sales and up to date books that are carefully picked for your to choose, and antiques and jewelry, a coffee house with
perfectly made espresso and lattes, and most tempting of all, the handmade chocolates which are to die for.
Locals inhabit the place and are helpful with what to see and do and add
local flavor. I always think if the locals like it than that is a good sign.
For parents with children, there is a waterfront playground right next door...the kids can play while your order is being prepared, and you can even eat outside on lovely wicker furniture if they want to picnic.
Just wander down St. George Street and you will see the lovely red building.
Enjoy...

JoAnn's Chocolate Shop is worth the extra walk down past the wharf on St. George St. We enjoyed a lovely club sandwich on a croissant while sitting outside on rustic willow furniture and watching artists painting during the Paint the Town Festival.

After our sandwich we each had a hazelnut truffle, an iced caramel latte (tasty and refreshing) and one of the house specialty oatmeal chocolate chip pecan cookies which were awesome.

Later that afternoon, we had to have a small box of chocolates and truffles to take with us for later. We got chai tea lattes to go as well. The home made chai tea was spicy with cinnamon and ginger and not too sweet.

If we didn't already love Annapolis Royal, we would certainly make the trip here just to have more of those chocolates. Forget Laura Secord, these are the best chocolates we have ever had. Oh and they have dark chocolate ginger all the time - not just at Christmas. I have already put my order in.

We always enjoy visiting with Joanne. The coffee is good and the chocolate is wonderful. I have a friend who loves the peanut butter cups so I always try to pick up some for her when we visit Annapolis Royal. Not disappointed as J. made some specially for us!!! My friend will be very happy! Lovely spot, lovely view and good hospitality!
