The Skyline Trail was one of the highlights of our visit to the Cape Breton. It is an easy hike, but a decent length and the views of the coast and the mountain ranges incomparable. Much of the trail is exposed, so it can be warm if the sun is shining - great for taking pictures, but don't forget to bring water. We were delighted, but also a bit scared, when we suddenly found ourselves up close to a moose with her calf. This is a good introduction to some of the longer and more strenuous hikes along the Cabot Trail.

If you are going, go earlier in the day as there is no shade. It was a great hike and the view of the coastline and the Cabot Trail were amazing. At the end the walkways down were a little dizzying. We didn't see any moose but the park ranger had lots of moose items to view. Take a lunch and lots of water!

Fairly easy trail, 5.7 miles if you take the extra loop (and you should) with great views, gorgeous scenery, and wildlife. Saw two moose.

If you are travelling to cape Breton, the skyline sunset hike is a must! It is a long walk but not exhausting at all. In our group there was even kids and that day the winds were over 150 miles per hour! It was quite something to experience such high wind but it didn't take anything away from the experience other than you had to really brace yourself while taking photos! The view at the end of the skyline trail is stunning and memorable. On the way there, we saw up close two large male moose. The guide does explain a few things about the animals and the different forest on the Cabot trail, I just wish the guide were more knowledgeable about botanical's as well. It was also nice to find bathrooms (even if they are primitive) along the trail. There were a few plants on the trail I wish I knew what they were. Watching the sunset in such beautiful place really grounds you.

This is the flagship hike in Cape Breton highlands. Meat cove and other hikes offer great views as well, but this one is doable by anyone who is 5+ years old. This will take 2-4 hrs depending on your ability. Make sure that you take your camera and take some water. Moose has been spotted often during this trail.
