“Thank you - we are nourished, body & soul!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

Two people, unknown to one another, in the space of less than 2 hours of our arrival in Sydney asked if we knew where we were staying (we didn't) and then immediately with warmth, recommended Bev & Gordon's Colby House. We are SO glad they did.
After our experience of a couple of nights on the road at run-of-the-mill soulless hotels, arriving and being welcomed by Bev & Gordon felt like coming home to a world of beauty and deep sustenance.
Where to start?
The lovingly restored house? The delightfully furnished rooms? The sense of generosity and ease?
Yes, all these were the crucible of enchantment which held the gems.... and yet it was Bev & Gordon themselves and the amazingly delicious delight with which they served the breakfasts - feasts of colour and taste, nourishing to the body, the soul, the eyes - that were the things which took our breath away and filled us with such joy at the start of each day.
And so much more. Not only the way both opened themselves to us and then quietly withdrew (with skill and compassion) inviting us to share their space in freedom, but that intangible sense of received grace which held us smilingly as we went about our days. What more can one ask?!
Thank you from the depths of our hearts!

Beverly and Gordon not only make your visit a special treat, but they've also created a unique B&B experience. We especially enjoyed the wrap-around porch for our afternoon relaxation after busy touring. Our color coordinated "Gabriel" room included unique features like embroidered pillow cases and richly appointed furnishing. Breakfast was a special treat and served on a different set of china each day...everything was delicious. The whole house, inside and out was impeccably clean, well maintained and furnishings that made you feel pampered....which we were. The location in Sydney is within an easy walk to good restaurants in the downtown.

Room Tip: The Gabriel room was great, although a little short of space for our luggage.

This beautiful, spacious B&B on a big, corner lot (in an established neighbourhood of quiet streets and mature trees), won our hearts from the moment we drove up, walked in and were greeted by host Beverly and her husband, Gordon. The property is immaculate, both inside and out. The decor is stunning, mostly due to Beverly's crafting and sewing talents. Everything is top of the line and classy - oh so comfortable KingCoil beds, a soft bathrobe behind the bathroom door, lots of special little touches. The common rooms are well-appointed, there's a computer set up for guests in a private nook - nothing has been overlooked. Breakfast was delicious - fresh fruit parfaits and eggs florentine the morning we were there. All in all, a 5-star experience!

Room Tip: All rooms are A1 - we chose the Gabriel Room because my husband is 6'2" and the bed didn...

The Colby House was the best Bed and Breakfast that we stayed at on our trip through the Maritime Provinces. It is an easy walk to the Esplanade, where you can find several good restaurants. Parking at the B&B was on the street, which was not a problem. We stayed in the MacLellan room, which was beautifully decorated in blues. We did have some problem with street noise, but only on the Saturday night, which is to be expected. Delicious and varied breakfasts were served. Our favorites being the raspberry crumble and eggs benedict. The owners, Bev and Gordon, were very accommodating. We enjoyed sitting in the parlor in the evening and conversing with them. Our visit to the Colby House was in the middle of our trip and comparing it to the rest of our B&B's, it was definitely the top.

We stayed at Colby House in Sydney, N.S. for five nights. This is probably the best B&B we've ever stayed in! And we've stayed in lot's of them! Our host's, Bev and Gordon, could not do enough for us! The house itself is gorgeous, the rooms beautifully decorated, and the beds were very, very comfy. Their location was central to everywhere we wanted to go.
If you are considering staying at a B&B or even a hotel in Sydney, it would be difficult to do better at the rate they charge, which includes a delicious breakfast each morning. ( in five days we had a different breakfast each day!)

Long, but very beautiful drive to Sydney, Nova Scotia where a wonderful B & B awaited us. Gracious hosts welcomed us as well as a lovely property and a comfortable room. Breakfast was wonderful and plentiful. Every detail was attended to in making this old home beautiful and efficient. Our hosts recommended a wonderful place for dinner. We actually needed two nights here to be able to see the sights around the area. A travel agent suggested our staying here and we are so glad we did, but he did not advise us of the diving distances and one night just wasn't enough. We hope to travel to this part of Canada one day soon and will certainly stay here again.

To begin with the conclusion: yes, if we will ever be back in Sydney, this is the place we need to stay. We got a very warm welcome from Bev and Gordon. We chose the Gabriel room because of its color and decor - it was fantastic. Plus all the little things which are very well thought through to make a stay comfortable and feel at home in an instance. The bed was very comfortable, the wireless reliable to do some mailing. Bev was very helpful in describing all the dining possibilities (all restaurants within walking distance) and her own preferences. We should have stayed longer than one night. The breakfast deserves the word awsome - fresh made fruit crumble with yoghurt, french toast made with orange juice (never had this before) which was fluffy and accompanied by a lot of different fruit - so there was no space left to try the fresh baked scones and homemade jam.
