“Great place to stay with the family”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

We stay here very often with our two girls. Most recently Christmas vacation. They have a great pool with a huge water slide. The restaurant is very good, breakfast menu is delicious and the kids eat for free off the menu when staying at the hotel. There is also a lovely little bar called the Crown Moose which is a great place to sit and relax with friends without even leaving the hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the staffs are friendly and accommodating. We were upgraded to a suit very easily when asked. This hotel was formerly called the Delta. It has changed names just last year. We also had our wedding reception here under the Delta name. It was wonderful!! I would recommend any one stay here but especially great for anyone with children.

Dear NGgirl,

Thank you for your review. It’s a delight to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us. Our pool and waterslide is a great feature for families and the Kid’s Eat Free program is definitely a bonus for family travel. The Crown and Moose Pub is definitely a staple here, with live entertainment every Friday and Saturday evenings. We are so honored to have hosted the reception for your wedding and to have had a part on your special day! I will be sure to pass on your wonderful comments to all the management and staff here at the Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront!

Sincerely,
Lindsey Joe

The hotel is currently undergoing a major overhaul and thus some things are less than perfect (ie. the maze from the hotel to the restaurant) but the staff is apologetic, helpful and friendly. On the day that the work involved some jack hammering in the late morning the staff offered some swag as a peace offering, which was a nice touch as they could have just shrugged it off as the nature of the beast. Breakfast is a bit pricey for what you get so we went elsewhere...
My favourite part about my stay was being able to choose my pillow firmness, as they are clearly labelled "soft" and "firm". Simple pleasures ;)

Dear fierykitty,

Thank you for your review. I’m glad we could make up for the inevitable inconveniences of the renovation process. The 2.3 million dollar renovation over the next 2 years is very exciting and the new lobby area and brand new restaurant will be finished in April 2013! It’s also great to hear you enjoy the little Holiday Inn touches we have to offer, like the choice of pillow firmness. We love the simple pleasures as well.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Joe

What a shame Fortis Properties migrated this hotel branding from Delta to Holiday Inn. Gone are the unique special touches that clearly Delta mandates to their operators to keep their loyal business customers as repeat customers. Now that Delta upgraded all the rooms before Fortis changed the sign out front in mid 2012, the rebranding has truly cheapened the overall experience. Compare for instance when it was Delta, loyal guests who stayed more than 25 times per year at Deltas were granted a choice of welcome snack, upgraded rooms, free phone calls, free hot breakfast, turn down service with bottled water/chocolates, etc., Now as a Holiday Inn, and I hold Priority Club Platinum status, absolutely none of the above is provided. Imagine, its 2013 and when you make a phone call from your room phone to a local number in Sydney they charge you $1.00 per call. Really, it's a local call. The concept of even charging for it is bizarre. I suspect this rebranding will wind up costing Fortis Properties the most in terms of lost future business from your previously loyal Delta clients. The Holiday Inn Sydney is physically and structurally well positioned on any number of levels for a visit to Sydney; whats sad is that as a Delta they had a clear guide on how to keep loyal repeat customers. Holiday Inn simply cannot even compare. Overall this rebranding to a Holiday Inn is nothing short of an Epic Fail! I suspect the Hampton Inn and Cambridge Suites will benefit the most from Fortis failure and should consider adding additional rooms given the upswing in sales.

Not sure about the poor reviews for this facility; received excellent service, many thanks to Cyril @ front desk who went above & beyond; room was spacious and clean, as was property overall. Didn't use restaurant but found pool & fitness facilities good. I'd recommend to anyone & stay here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: water view is great

This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
I don't care of nice rooms, wonderful view or brilliant restaurant if staff is so incompetent.

We had a serious problem, which can happen when traveling with kids. Checked out leaving all documents in the room, passports included.
When realized, rang the hotel three times before having an answer which was: "I don't know what I can do more than I did, double checked the room there's nothing". Asked, begged him to check once more, maybe under the sofa where my little one loves to hide things. Nothing to do.
Wrote an urgent e-mail, did not even have a reply!
Drove back to check ourselves. Were admitted to the room with a woman from the housekeeping, our documents were exactly where we asked them to look for... under the sofa!! Unbelievable, husband saw them as soon as entered the room, which was also made up and perfectly clean.
This is unthinkable, no courtesy, no help, no competence at all. Keep away of this place, you'll get mad if you need something from them

Dear Daniel Bruce,
Thank you for your review. We are very excited about our current renovations! We will be welcoming a whole new lobby in February. Unfortunately, there was no hot water due to a local power outage in the city that had re-set our boilers for a few hours last week. Thank you again for your comments, we appreciate any suggestions for improvement.
Sincerely,

The view is exceptional with harbour view and the staff are all pleasant and very helpful. I preferred it as a Delta as I am a business traveller and the pillows have been switched (downgraded in my opinion) - I know I'm picky!!. Also the amenities are not the quality I got to love. Very accomodating to booking a room and the rates are very reasonable. I would stay again, but have switched to Cambridge for business travel because when staying for a week, there are more conveniences - such as small store, breakfast buffet which speeds my leaving in the morning and staff are so helpful and quick to followup on any maintenance requests that may come up.

Room Tip: choose one with harbour view on any floor from 4 or up

Dear Mary S,

Thank you for your review. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the view from our rooms and our wonderful staff. We do have new standard pillows in our rooms with two soft pillows and two firm pillows per queen bed with a choice of four specialty pillows upon request. Our amenities have changed as well to the Bath & Body works line which is coconut and lime verbena shampoo, conditioner and lotion and citrus mint face and body soap. Thank you again for your comments and if you would like to stay with us again, let us know how we could help accommodate you better.
