Our party of four recently enjoyed an excellent dinner at Kiju's. Two of us had never been there before and were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and has a pleasant layout, nice and relaxed atmosphere. It took a little while to get seated even though the restaurant did not seem too busy. Once things went underway, service was very pleasant and very friendly but a bit slow. Not so much at the beginning but at the end of the night service became really slow to the point where we decided against ordering deserts, basically because nobody came to ask us what we had chosen. That was the only glitch of the night though and the rest of the evening was highly enjoyable. Drinks came promptly and they make a very nice Cosmopolitan cocktail. We shared the steamed Aspy Bay mussels for starters (super tasty) and the gaufrette potatos (good but way too many for an appetizer plus the excellent Dragon's Breath blue cheese dip portion was not big enough).
All four main courses were amazing with very pretty presentation, everything tasted excellent and everything was fresh. The 12 oz charbroiled steak was a particular highlight and perfectly executed to my husband's liking (medium rare). Another delight was the roasted salmon with with clam risotto, it's was just simply divine. Very fair portions in accordance with the price you are paying. The other couple had the fish n' chips and fish cakes & beans respectively and both were satisfied. We would have rated it as excellent if the service would have been consistent but we will definitely come back to Kiju's next time we're in town.
