Owner description: The Jost House is the oldest house in Sydney Nova Scotia, built in 1786. We are open June 1st to October 29th and/or all cruise ship days. During your visit, a guide will give you a personal tour of our 1786 kitchen and the ground floor of the museum. The basement has been restored to the original 18th century kitchen. On the ground floor we have many historical Victorian artifacts in our bedroom, parlour, dining room and store. The upstairs portion of the house, added in 1910, has four different exhibit rooms to browse around in at your leisure.

“Charming museum”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

we happened in on this great gem while wandering through the older part of Sydney. As we were on a non cruise ship day in the shoulder season we had the place to ourselves. We had a great tour of the house and then had the opportunity to go through the house again to see all the interesting items collected there particularly the Queen Victoria gift. The staff were great. It is certainly worthwhile to see this house.

“A fun, quick spot to check out while in downtown Sydney”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

It is a quick blast into the past with this little gem, hidden on Charlotte Street. It is also great if you can combine this with one of the excellent "Ghost Walk" tours of Sydney

“A very interesting visit”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

We did not plan to visit the Jost Heritage House as it was early in the season and we knew that it was still not open. However, during a walk in the older part of Sydney we walked by the Jost House and we were invited to visit the house by the staff who were preparing the house for the opening a few days later. We were givent the full visit which was fairly interesting. It was free for us (they refused to accept any payment as they were not yet officially open) but well worth the 3 or 4 dollars a regular visit. The whole neighbourhood is also interesting with a few beautiful houses and I would suggest that you take to time to stroll in the few blocks around the Jost house
