“Not so much a tourist attraction as a functioning courthouse”
Reviewed 7 March 2014 via mobile

Certainly take a look at the outside as you walk by on the lower portion of Spring Garden Road. It is lovely building that heard its first trial in October of 1860, over 150 years ago.

The inside isn't quite as nice but I still enjoy the grand, wooden staircase and ornate courtrooms. You will have to go through a metal detector to get inside. There is a docket printed in the waiting room but the helpful Sheriffs will let you know what interesting cases are going on in the 5 courtrooms. There is always something interesting and the courtrooms are all open to the public but you can't take pictures or record anything. All cases here are criminal law and some cases may be quite graphic.

If you are interested in the law, be sure to visit the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal on Lower Water a Street.

“Interesting building, helpful staff”
Reviewed 22 December 2012

Went it to see if we could find any records related to my family history. Staff were really helpful as we toured around the interesting rooms. Found a person to look up some archive references, which turned out to be limited, but was very nice of them to spend time with us.

“Wasn't sure what to expect.”
Reviewed 23 October 2012

Not even really sure how to review this. It was cool, we just went and sat through a few hearings for my boyfriend's class at school.

“Beautiful Exterior”
Reviewed 9 October 2012

The exterior is quite beautiful. The interior not so much! It is a functioning courthouse, so you may be able to see a trial in progress. The building is full of history and ghosts!

“Unique piece of history”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

Do have a visit. The exterior is worth a walk past. The interior will dissapoint, but it is full of history and ghosts. Watch a court proceeding or two.
