The Halifax explosion and the Titanic exhibits were the highlights since they had a movie to complement the exhibits. Many models of old ships, actual small craft and other artifacts were part of the self guided tour. It is not necessarily geared o small children.

This museum is certainly about the water and sailing and boating, but it offers much more.

It gives a very specific history of the Titanic as it impacted the city of Halifax. It tells of the 219 bodies that were recovered by rescue vessels sent out of the port. And the 150 bodies that were buried right in three cemeteries within Halifax.

It shares the history of the explosion that happened in 1917 when to huge vessels collided. Three to four thousand lives were lost.

I really enjoyed the whole experience. Was there far longer than I expected.

This museum offers a good synopsis of local history. The Halifax explosion exhibit and the Titanic exhibit are well worth the price of admission.

This museum contains an excellent display and significant information about the Halifax Explosion. There is also a large display and memorabilia regarding the sinking of the Titanic. Everything is well organized and you are able to move easily around. There are ships outside by the wharf that you can visit also. If you are interested in the history of wooden boat building, this is the place to go. All things historical and nautical regarding this area of Canada are represented very well. Lots to see and experience here. I frequently recommend this museum to friends.

Despite finding out that the corvette Sackville was not on display and also discovering I was too early in the year by two weeks to visit the Acadia, both vessels usually at the adjacent quayside, I found the exhibits really well done. All items well presented with descriptive text in both English and French.
I did not know, prior to arrival at the museum, of the vessel Acadia and it's long term service as a Hydrographic ship. This was a surprise, and a nice one for me, as a Hydrographer!
There were plenty of exhibits of various nautical flavour, to keep all members of a family intrigued, from historical sailing vessels, naval development, the hydrographic service and a special and dramatic exhibit about the Halifax explosion.
A well laid out set of displays not hard on the feet to get around. A superb model making exhibit on the second floor.
Thoroughly enjoyable, although I may be slightly biased!
