We had our wedding at this hotel and it was a fantastic stay. The hotel is in a perfect location for those people looking to experience the Halifax culture (casino, lots of pubs, restaurants and harbour views). Our room was clean and the bed was very comfy. The toiletries were also very nice. It has a starbucks in the lobby and the restaurant and pub in the hotel are great. All the staff were fantastic and I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

Being platinum with Marriott would make it seem that I would always write a glowing review but this hotel reall is fantastic.

The location is perfectly situated on the water with lots of things to do and see within walking distance.

Very happy with my stay...highky recommend it.

It is right on the harbour, next to all the tourist amenities.
The in-house restaurant has a patio overlooking the harbour, or you can go next door to one of the places at the Historic Properties, which is a collection of restaurants, bars, & shops in one of Halifax' original buildings, which has been restored.
The hotel itself has 6 floors, and is the flagship Marriott for the city.
The rooms are up to date and relatively spacious, beds comfortable. Because of the way the hotel is constructed, most rooms face to the sides of the hotel, instead of directly at the harbour.
Still, there are rooms with very good views (those closer to the rear of the building).
The meeting rooms on the 1st floor of the side facing Historic Properties have their own patio, a nice feature.
The Concierge lounge had a decent breakfast, and snacks & cash bar in the evening. Not much of a price break on drinks, I saw very few people purchase there. The staff were very friendly & helpful, and quite knowledgeable about the area.
There's a pedway going over the street to the rest of the CBD, another one goes to the casino. There's an indoor pool, and a "sundeck" accessible from the pool. If you're expecting a view from the sundeck, be aware that it provides an excellent view of the wings of the building, it is too low for a view of the harbour.
Getting to the hotel driving is a little tricky, the street it's on is one-way, ending just short of the parking garage if you drive from the casino, which is the easiest way to get there from the freeway. We had to go the wrong way for 1/2 block to park in the garage.
To do it properly, you have to come from the CBD, and go around the block- not intuitive.

Also, If you're coming from the 'States, be aware that Canadian prices are all quoted pre-tax, meaning establishments can add on gst, bed tax, etc. No exception here.
The hotel charges its gold & platinum members to park in the garage, which can quickly add up, when you consider the taxes added on. Car rentals are very expensive here, the flat rate sounds reasonable, but the taxes and surcharges can run as high as 74% of your flat rate. If you don't need a car, I'd suggest taking a taxi from the airport, this can cost about $50 per trip.

As I mentioned earlier, most everything is an easy walk from the hotel, so a car isn't really necessary to get to most of the places on the harbourfront, the CBD, or the Citadel at the top of the hill.
The whale watching tour is a good value, and so is the Harbour-hopper, which is an amphibious vehicle that drives around the city streets then takes you out on the harbour.
Also, don't miss the clubs on Argyle st, good music & food!

If you want to be right on the Halifax Harbour, this is a great location. Our room looked right out onto the water. It is right at the start of the boardwalk and close to alot of great restaurants, shops, attractions and downtown. The hotel staff were very efficient. The male staff were all wearing kilts, which I thought was very nice. The rooms were very clean and a good size. Absolutely no complaints about this hotel. Well worth it!

We really enjoyed our stay here in July. The room was very clean and modern. It was a great home-base for us to walk to all of the sights of Halifax! I loved staying on the water and in the evening there were some nice places to eat along the water.

I can't even began to discuss how insane our weekend at this hotel was.
To begin, we made reservations a month before arriving... they lost them. So they decided to " upgrade" our room to a business suite. K... we reserved two beds ( and paid extra to ensure we would get two queen beds). We walk into the room. It's bigger. more space ( awesome) but.... the two beds consists of one King sized hide-a-bed and a pull out couch. Not entirely the softest, best beds out there. That's fine. We're good.

We go out to eat and hang out, come back around 11:30. I sit on the bed and realize, I'm sinking in. We take a look. The bed is literally seperated from the wood frame, nails poking out everwhere and the metal frame is bent ( we later find out they knew this all along and put us in here).
Great.... we call the desk. They will send someone up to look at it ( real confident, since they also said would send someone up to bring us a corkscrew eariler and never showed up). Maintenance guy comes up... the bed cannot be fixed, they will have to get something to brace it. At this point my friend goes down to the desk.

They cannot place us in another room. They offer us free breakfast in the morning and to pay for our parking. When suggesting the night free, they did not feel it was necessary.
They decide it's best to send up a cot for the other girls.

It's 12:30 AM...we're spent an hour with maintenance guys... we were ready for bed for over an hour, we still have maintenance guys in looking at the bed, trying to put it up and they finally bring up the cot. One cot... we have 4 girls. We ask for another.... the guy suggests... AN AIR MATTRESS! I lost it then.
The desk was then advised we were not paying for this room and they did not argue.
The cots were dirty, the linens had crusted food on them and wet stains. Good times.

The next day they advised tus they would make it their #1 priority to take our stuff to another, bigger room with a better view. They would have it done by the time we got back from shopping. Guranteed.. do not worry.

5 hours later we return. Guy at the desk has no idea what we're talking about... no room is available to switch us. Nothing was taken care of. He checks it out.. explains the room they had planned for us to use was booked. He will set us up. We received a smaller room, two floors up and had to wait for our luggage to get there. Thanks.

All in all.. I will never go back here. The fact that we've had to go through all of this and they refused in the beginning to give us our night free, was insane ( we talked to about 4 people before getting this) .. mind you we still needed to wait 3-5 business days for the refund.

On a bonus side.... the breakfast buffet... AMAZING. It was free.. but would have been worth the $13. Delicious.

We have stayed in this Marriott many times, and recently visited Halifax this month. We had a very enjoyable stay, from the reservation to a thank you email upon our return home. We received our requested location in the hotel. The front desk personnel was very helpful, pleasant, and efficient. Check-in was quick and easy, and front desk was also very helpful with a few requests (snack after hours, and directions which included helpful print out maps to Peggy's Cove). I noticed that the staff member who helped us with the maps was a "trainee" and she was just as efficient and pleasant.
This is the only hotel on the water of the harbour. The facilities are fantastic, as the pool is part of the spa so is connected to wonderful showers. My husband and son are always very impressed with the workout room which contains everything you need. The hotel did not charge for WiFi which was wonderful as we were travelling with our 15 year old son.

Room Tip: Ask for south corridor (4th floor), as close to the hotel corner as possible - beautiful view of har...
