It was a standard hotel but not up to par with some Marriott's I have stayed at i.e. Montreal. A bit rundown in the hallways. The room was fine. The bed comfortable. Room didn't have a bar fridge but had a large safe - odd. One of the more expensive hotels in the city, so I expected more. The restaurant near the lobby was surprisingly good. Parking was expensive at 19.95 per day but it did come with in and out privileges so that helped.

This hotel has lots going for it. It's an indoor walk to the casino, it has great meeting spaces, it's right next door to the Historic Properties and it's right on the harbour. Marriott is finally figuring that out and is spending a bit to spruce the place up.

The new lobby is lovely, but the restaurant with its view of the harbour has been replaced with a pretty standard lobby bar with a view of, well, the lobby.

The fitness centre is excellent, and the Starbucks in the lobby is a Godsend since the in-room coffee comes from a fracking site somewhere near Fargo.

Then there's the room. Whatever you have to do to not stay on the third floor will be worth it. Not staying on the third floor means you won't look out your window to see a lattice railing and, beyond it, the smokers shivering on the terrace. You also won't have to listen to the late night drinkers or early morning sweepers. I can't image why someone thought this was a good idea.

The rooms, despite the stunning view of the lattice, are comfy and Marriott knows what nobody else seems to, which is that people who travel on business, need lots of places to plug things in. The desk has four outlets, all accessible and you don't have to unplug the TV just to charge your phone.

Beside the bed there are two accessible plugs for phones, ipads and what have you. Again, no crawling around on the floor, no charging things in the bathroom. Plus there's a very comfortable desk chair that's actually adjustable. Fairmont, are you paying attention?

All in, a good place for a quick trip or a meeting.

Room Tip: Beg them not to put you on the third floor.

We have stayed in a lot of hotels around the world and this was easily among the best. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed that had great back support (a must for us); excellent regional cuisine; spotlessly clean; close to the boardwalk, restaurants and attractions; with comfortable conference facilities. Best of all was the staff, who day to day gave the best service, always going out of their way to make our stay wonderful. Heading out for a drive? The desk clerk presented us with 2 bottles of complementary water. Arriving at the hotel with a rental car to return after hours? The concierge walked us to the garage to be sure we could find the key return box. Whatever our need, they took care of it. Marriott is a big chain, and sometimes big chains lack the personal touches that can make a stay memorable. But the quality and service we received was anything but ordinary. Halifax was a great place to visit, and this hotel contributed to that positive impression.

Thanks to the Marriott, we had a wonderful 2 night stay in Halifax in early November 2013. Great Location: stroll the waterfront, Historic Properties, or take the "pedway" across to Scotia Square and many other areas. Hotel staff at the front desk were very helpful and friendly: one male staff member overheard us talking about my granddaughter's DVD player whose battery was down and he offered us a cord so we could plug it in the room and she could watch her movies whenever she wanted all weekend! We also had a fridge brought to our room upon arrival at no extra cost. ( We had requested one the day before we went.) Pool was large and very clean. Harbour view from spacious room very nice as well. Tip: Take the ferry across to Dartmouth ( terminal 5 minute walk from hotel) and experience the view of the harbour from the upper outside deck..all for $1.75 return, senior rate, with the transfer. Hotel facilities for the conference were excellent as well. Enjoyed the valet parking too!

Stayed 3 nights for a conference at the hotel. Check in was friendly and quick. Had a beautiful king bed room facing the front of the hotel. The room smelled clean, the decor nice with plenty of lighting, and nice temperature control. Nice bathroom and shower. Wi-fi internet was efficient. Plenty of underground parking. Walking distance to anywhere waterfront or downtown and connected by pedway. Food related to the conference was excellent. Would stay here again when in the area.

If you love paying double the rate for half the amenities, this is your hotel. Lobby is beautiful and location on harbour is very nice. Rooms are very average and could use some updating. Service was very good. Bartender was gracious and gave me some hot tea because I had a sore throat. I would consider other hotels if I returned to Halifax. Nothing really wrong with this hotel but if I'm going to pay this much I would expect not to have to pay extra for every small thing

I was at this Marriott for a conference. Accommodations were what I expect from a Marriott, with my room requests honored - nothing extraordinary or distinctive. Food was included with the conference, so I had the chance to eat there frequently. Food was good, nicely prepared. Ate one meal at the bar; lobster roll is excellent, fresh - be sure to try it!
Staff were friendly and helpful - it's clear that everyone has been trained to ask the guests how they are enjoying their stay - I was asked several times a day.
I would not bother paying extra for the water view....the hotel is so close to the harbourfront, you can stroll along the water as much as you please.
I think it would be nice to have a smaller, more intimate dining experience available, the one, wide open bar/restaurant may not appeal to the family/leisure traveler.

Room Tip: Very few with a true water view - I wouldn't pay extra for this....
