“Service exceeded expectations”
Reviewed 13 October 2011

It was an anniversary treat for my wife (and kids - yes, I know, but we'd asked for adjoining rooms).
The staff went out of their way to make everything perfect - complementary valet service, upgraded room, flowers & bottle of wine in the room, free nibbles & movie for the kids, small coupon for the restaurant, complementary turn-down service.
And that was on top of the one service we went for: the pool!

We were impressed!

Room Tip: The back of the hotel faces the water - if you're high enough.

Stayed October 2011, standard room 2 double beds. Room visually appealing, nice decor. bathroom very clean. Was disappointed in the sleep quality, beds were too soft, and heavy heavy toppers. there was mold in the feather duvet when I held it up to light, I think its just a bedding thing for me and to each their own opinion. carpet wasnt the cleanest. those were the only 2 complaints about my stay. The hotel was in a good location, had very friendly and accommodating staff. Never had a chance to try the restaurant, but the Indian restaurant the Taj Majal across the street was amazing. Probably not my favorite hotel in Halifax, as there are better cheaper hotels.

We booked through Priceline and I was worried as to how we would be received. I need not have worried. We received first class service at the front desk. We were running a bit late for a restaurant reservation, but at my request, the gentleman serving us simply picked up the phone and moved our reservation ahead for us. Our room was smaller than I'm used to, but so what, it was perfectly fine. It had been recently renovated and was very comfortable. I think people have come to expect too much from a hotel.

I have no difficulty in recommending this hotel, it was comfortable, extremely clean, and the front desk service was excellent.

We frequently travel to Halifax and stayed at this property 2 times in the last month. We travelled with both extended family and our young child. On both occasions, we were checked in by Lorene and she made every effort to accommodate our family needs and ensured we were comfortable throughout our visit. During our 2nd stay, we decided to extend our visit by another day and had a separate reservation. When I called service express in the hotel to sort out our additional night, Alan was extremely accommodating and eager to assist us which included moving our luggage for us. The attentiveness of the staff at this hotel is top notch and I would recommend this property to both business and pleasure travellers.

Booked by local Canada team and based on experience of my stay at Westin Grand Vancouver earlier in the week I had high expectations. I arrived late in the day and really just need a bed and bathroom for 48 hours. Dining room was closed for renovations.

It really was nothing special just covered the basics well though little niggly things disappointed - room phone speaker capability not working so made doing conference calls a pain; healthy breakfast options on room service menu severely limited; internet connection intermittent.

Would probably choose another hotel closer to the centre of town next time

Room Tip: Rooms are tiny so try and get one facing the park.

Thank you for writing a review on your stay with us. Our sincerest apologies that we did not meet your Westin expectations. Our hotel is historic and some of our rooms can be smaller than others.

Our hotel restaurant, elements on hollis, was closed for renovations during your stay and we apologize for this inconvenience. The restaurant is now open daily serving local & fresh menu selections. We hope to welcome you back again for a true Westin Nova Scotian experience.

I have stayed at this hotel for a number of years although it has been about 18 months since my last stay. I booked a special rate which was still a bit pricey for what I received.

The room was on one of the low floors, at the extreme end of the hallway, and was very small with a Queen bed. I think they forgot the Westin "Heavenly Bed" in this room - it wasn't great. View was very limited - overlooking the rooftop of the floor below - but was clean, nice amenities. Bathroom was tiny.

I had requested an early check-in and when I arrived at the hotel around noon they said my room was not ready. I asked when it would be ready and the reply was "People normally check in at 3pm"... okay. Name tag said she was a Trainee so maybe that explains the lack of a direct answer. Disappointing as I am an SPG Gold member and almost a Platinum member. Stored the luggage and walked around the waterfront and downtown - it was a brilliant sunny Sunday - and returned to the hotel around 2:30 and the room was ready.

Room Service was good and was delivered in a timely manner. Other staff (bar, bellman) were all helpful and courteous. I would probably stay again but if the room was as small as it was on this trip, I would likely move to another property.

Room Tip: Female Travellers - be aware that the rooms booked at special rates are often the smallest rooms, an...

We have stayed at Westin hotels before and always seem to do well with them. On this occasion I spotted a deal where if you stayed 2 nights then you could get the second night for the year of your birth - in our case $43 plus tax - and was inclusive of the car parking charge (approx $15 per night). Averaging this out it made the 2 night stay very competitive indeed! We had a harbourview room and it was very good. The hotel is well situated for sightseeing in Halifax. Highly recommended but suggest you look carefully at what deals are on offer.
