We stayed for just one evening before a flight back home. Clean, updated, nice amenties and great location. The room was very small. Booked rate through Hotwire and was pleased with the room for the rate. There is a parking charge as in most cities.

Thank you for writing a review on your stay with us. We’re pleased you enjoyed our updated guest rooms, convenient location and hotel amenities. Due to the history of our hotel, some of our rooms tend to be smaller than others.

We’re happy to hear you had a comfortable stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future!

Kind Regards,
Guido Kerpel

Friendly staff and updated rooms, with all amenities, make the Westin Nova Scotian a great choice! Great food at the newly opened Elements restaurant is another positive addition! I throughly enjoyed my stay in early Oct. 2011, after having tried other hotels during recent visits to Halifax.

This past spring, my husband and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend (Friday and Saturday night) for a wedding. We had spent Thursday night at Cambridge Suites Hotel because the Westin couldn’t accommodate us (they were full). The Westin was a disappointment in comparison to Cambridge! Our first moments at the hotel during check in set the tone for the rest of our stay. The young woman was rude and abrupt in checking us in and answering our questions regarding parking and the wedding accommodations. I almost felt like we were interrupting her doing something extremely important but I can't imagine what that might have been given she was the only person on the front desk and we were the only guests there at that time. When I asked if our room was near the other wedding guests (given a block of rooms had been reserved at a special rate), the response I got was "I don't know where they are but we are full so there isn't any choice of rooms." I felt this was an awfully rude response to a reasonable question.

When we arrived at our room, we quickly realized it was not the room we had reserved. We had paid extra to get a room with a king-sized bed. This room was smaller, with what looked like a double bed. In addition, there was this awful yellow stain on the carpet at the foot of the bed. I didn't want to even imagine what it could have been. I called down to the front desk and thankfully I didn't get the person who checked us in. Instead I got a man who looked into the matter and did confirm that we had received the wrong room. He sent someone up to help us with our bags and we settled into our actual room.

Even though we had a corner room with a king bed, my first impression of the room was that it was tired and old. In terms of cleanliness, it was ok, not great. It felt dingy to me and dingy never feels overly clean. The bathroom was very small with no counter space making it difficult for two people to get ready at one time. I was unimpressed.

We had to go out that evening for the wedding rehearsal and when we came back, the parking lot out back was full. Parking was included with our room rate and we had been given a tag to put in our windshield but obviously there was no limit to how many tags the hotel gave out because the lot was at capacity with multiple cars looking for spots. We were told by hotel staff to go park in the Via Rail parking lot down the road but you had to pay to park there. Why would we pay for parking at the hotel (or get it included in our rate) and then go park somewhere else and pay there too?

The hotel's location wasn't great either as it was removed from central downtown. It was a bit of a walk to get to Spring Garden Road or the shops and restaurants down on Halifax harbour. You'd want a car to get around but the problems with parking when you returned to the hotel made having a car difficult.

Overall, our stay was just "ok". I don't think I'd stay here again because there are nicer hotels with friendlier staff in better locations downtown for similar prices.

We were in Halifax for a romatic escapade for 4 days, we received our room a bit later then expected but the staff was trying their best to accomodate us, they were very helpful. We expected the hotel to be very rustic but very clean. First we got a room with dust not really clean bathroom. The staff was very helpful and try to find another room. we got the key and I open a room already occupied!?! bit shocking but mistake can happen !?! we finally got a room that was OK. My point is that for that price with the WESTIN name we didn't expect that at all....so be prepared!

It was an anniversary treat for my wife (and kids - yes, I know, but we'd asked for adjoining rooms).
The staff went out of their way to make everything perfect - complementary valet service, upgraded room, flowers & bottle of wine in the room, free nibbles & movie for the kids, small coupon for the restaurant, complementary turn-down service.
And that was on top of the one service we went for: the pool!

We were impressed!

Room Tip: The back of the hotel faces the water - if you're high enough.

Stayed October 2011, standard room 2 double beds. Room visually appealing, nice decor. bathroom very clean. Was disappointed in the sleep quality, beds were too soft, and heavy heavy toppers. there was mold in the feather duvet when I held it up to light, I think its just a bedding thing for me and to each their own opinion. carpet wasnt the cleanest. those were the only 2 complaints about my stay. The hotel was in a good location, had very friendly and accommodating staff. Never had a chance to try the restaurant, but the Indian restaurant the Taj Majal across the street was amazing. Probably not my favorite hotel in Halifax, as there are better cheaper hotels.
