“#1 Halifax, Nova Scotia Hotel - Excellent, Excellent, Excellent !!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013

This is an amazing historic hotel and a definite stay while visiting Halifax. I have traveled to many hotels across the country on business and pleasure - look no further and book your stay here. The staff is very friendly, polite, courteous and professional. The rates are excellent and they even upgraded my room at no charge to a suite that made my stay even more comfortable. Also, when I needed to extend my reservation - they gave me a special rate and a gift basket, while being able to continue staying in the suite. From the front desk, to valet, to room service and housekeeping I would not stay any other place. The restaurant has such an excellent breakfast buffet that offers fresh fruit, omelet to order, and every type of fresh juice and pastry. Yuks Yuks comedy club is also inside the hotel, which is a convenient place to see hot comedians passing through town. The view is beautiful and the local farmer's market is right across the street. There are other delicious, local restaurants within walking distance which made our lengthy stay more convenient.

My stay at the Westin Halifax has been several weeks and all I can say is that they made me feel like I was at Home - and thats the truth. Book your stay today!!!

My wife and I just spent the weekend at the Westin Nova Scotia.
Pros:
fantastic location, farmers market is right around the corner
the staff (from the valet to the front desk and even the maids) are the friendliest I've ever met and should be the model for how to treat a guest at every other hotel
a fairly modern touch on an old building
nice gym, pool is kept at a great temperature (although the pool area itself is fairly dated)
we had a great view of the park from the sixth floor

Cons:
very thin walls and floors, my wife and I were awakened sunday morning by the children in the room above and the banging pipes from the shower next door
management will nickel and dime customers - valet and even self parking are much more than I have paid for any other downtown halifax hotel, WIFI costs an extra $10/day
even though bathrooms are modernized they've overlooked simple ergonomics the last time they were renovated - toilet is oddly low and the sink is too high and set too far back for anybody under 5'3".... example: had my wife still been pregnant she wouldn't have been able to get close enough to the sink to brush her teeth.

Overall: a nice time, especially due to the front line staff

My wife and I arrived at the Nova Scotian around midnight, yet found the front desk staff wide awake and helpful! Our clerk even unlocked a nearby office to get brochures and maps for us.
Our room was very nice - fourth floor and facing away from the harbor. Had a very nice breakfast on site, also. Would definitely recommend this hotel - so close to harbor & waterfront boardwalk stores and restaurants, including farmers market.

We received a suite upgrade (due to platinum status) and the hotel supplied a bottle of local wine and a fruit basket. They couldn't have been more helpful. Also, the location was perfect for touring the downtown area, restaurants and bars.

Booked through Priceline Express deal. Great rate.

Decent room for a very old Hotel. Thin walls, can hear your neighbours very well.

Ice machines on the 5th and 6th floor were out of service. One elevator was out of service and a number of TV channels were terrible (basically no TSN or SNE as well a few other channels)

Very close to the Halifax waterfront, farmers market and Pier 21.

Onsite parking is at a premium. ($18 to $20 per night)

Never ate in the restaurant in the hotel, however we did go to Yuk Yuks (which is in the Hotel) and enjoyed our evening.

We got a pizza from Tomasino's pizza across the street. Well worth it.

Would recommend for someone wanting a downtown hotel. Superstore and Liquor store within walking distance (1 min away)

Stayed 3 nights in Halifax in November. Excellent location to go explore the marina, and easy walking distance to the main streets in town where all the bars/restaurants are. The hotel itself is nothing super special, but absolutely not disappointing in any way. Typical "Westin" business hotel. Would stay again - good pub in the lobby!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a seaside view

For our purposes, two days in the Halifax area, the Westin Nova Scotia was a 5-star hotel. Our room was spacious, with updated furnishings, a large desk and other horizontal areas with plugs for our devices and plenty of room for other things too. There was a wonderful view of the entire Halifax harbor--definitely worth the extra cost--and the service was excellent; for example, when we were too warm using the duvet and asked for lighter blankets, someone came immediately and came again when we asked for another adjustment. Employees at the the front desk were friendly and always helpful. The room cleaners were judicious in their work--cleaning well but not messing with the way we left things, which was much appreciated. See separate review of the hotel restaurant Elements.
