The Westin Nova Scotian
Ranked #17 of 28 Hotels in Halifax
Reviewed 4 August 2014

The Westin Nova Scotian continues to be our home away from home when travelling to Halifax. From the minute you are greeted at the front doors to the time you leave the service is impeccable. Alan and Jesse on the front desk always make you feel welcomed and Scott and Liam in the lounge continually offer great maritime hospitality. Regardless if you are travelling on business or trying to catch up with old friends the Westin is the place to be, great location, great service and great beds.

Room Tip: The Harbor View rooms are worth the price of an upgrade - amazing view!

I haven't seen a better staff in Nova Scotia and the hotel looks good. The rooms were very clean but it didn't smell as good as it looked. It is a little bit far from the "action" compared to other hotels but it has a much better view than most other hotels. There is no underground parking so the valet parking probably the best option if it is raining. I really liked this hotel and I am likely to go back if I go back to Halifax.

The staff at Westin in Halifax were very helpful and the lobby is beautiful. The outside of the building is beautiful but the rooms are very tired. It is not really what you expect from a Westin but we got a really good deal for two nights when we came here from North Carolina. It is in a nice location though it is better to be closer to Barrington or more that way because that is where everything is except Bishop's Landing which has some amazing restaurants. We ate breakfast at the Westin and it was really overpriced and offered very little. For what it cost one person at the Westin, we were able to get for less at Bluenose II, which is spectacular. Like other reviews have said, the rooms are a little tired but they are trying.

This is the old Canadian railroad hotel now being run as a Westin. The staff is friendly and professional.

The rooms are relatively small but have been given the Westin touch with a new paint job, nice linens and decorations. The furniture is old and really needs to be refreshed.

The location is really good and Halifax is a compact, walkable city. They only bar is in the lobby. Service is catch as catch can and it is really not a comfortable place to have a drink or a light meal.

The breakfast buffet was nice.

It was an slightly better than average hotel but it was not up to the standards I would expect from a Westin property.

This hotel has a great location, gas, super market, the historic Halifax harbor, pier 21' board walk, farmers market , everything is right there. Plenty of restaurants on the board wallk. The hotel itself is a bit dated but clean and courteous staff.

We had a room on the 12 th fl with a view of the park. We enjoyed our stay and walked to all the places,

Room Tip: Staying in Halifax for 2 nights, we covered lunenbourg and Peggys cove. We did whale watching from t...

We have stayed at the Westin a few times, to get a night out just for ourselves, but the room this time was not what we where used too. We got our usual King room with the waterfront view, but our room was so small. It might of been 12 x 20 with a bathroom 5 x 8 with the tub, sink and toilet in that space. Our bed was beautiful and we had a great sleep. The view should of been great overlooking the harbor but the windows where full of moisture so you could really only see out of one of the three. Don't get me wrong we where not in our room very much at all, we just expected more from our stay there. We will be back but I will ask more questions about what room we are getting next time.
It is so close to the Farmers Market and Waterfront it is the perfect stop to stay.
The bonus with this hotel is the staff, they are among the most helpful and kind hearted staff.

Room Tip: The 11th floor is very quiet, but do ask about the room size, our room was a little too small.

Just back from two nights with the family at the Westin in Halifax. Pretty good location near Pier 21 at the end of the Boardwalk. Downtown easily accessible on foot. The hotel is nice inside, if a little tired and showing its age in places. We stayed in two rooms on the 11th floor. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. A couple of issues with noise in adjoining rooms but mainly with the fact that the elevators sounded like the we're being powered by a diesel generator. Very loud and noticeable. At first I thought the noise was coming from construction outside, but it was the elevators. Anyway, not too too big a deal, but not something you'd expect from a hotel of this calibre. Overall the service for the staff was decent, with few exceptions. I guess I would stay here again.

Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like you had the opportunity to get out and explore the waterfront. The boardwalk is a nice place to walk in the summertime. We are happy to hear that our service was satisfactory, but apologize for the noises you heard from your room. We are working towards improving your concerns for future guests. We hope to see you again the next time you’re in town.

Kind regards,
Guido Kerpel
