You would think with the cost of the room and the prices in the restaurant this hotel wouldn't fail to deliever. The night stayed, August 25th was apparently booked out, so booking in advance was certainly the best thing. The bed was very comfortable and the room over looked the bay, the best view in the entire hotel! The A/C was one the problems. Since the drapes were not closed nor the thick blind down all of the outside heat and collected in the room and there is no real individual control setting for people's prefrences. What a pity. However, the maintance woman was very helpful, courteous and friendly, she had very good PR skills. Which in business seems to be lackly very much, particularly in the restuarant at breakfast. Anyway she kindly gave us a free voucher for breakfast and apologising nicely about the half hour delay we had to wait for her to come on duty. Had a good sleep and thankful for one bottle of free water, altho' two or three wouldn't have gone amiss as two bigger bottles were almost $6 each! It also would be nice if there was a fridge in the room as with cheap hotels rather than having to ask. The breakfast was good only because of the voucher but there didn't seem to much PR skills in the man that seated us or the waiter. Only two elevators were working and as the hotel was booked out not a good idea and one is slow. Apparently the older half of the buidling has bigger rooms with higher ceilings, didn't stay there, but if anyone books later and the hotel isn't almost full ask for a room that side if you have more than two in your group. Oh and the shower water pressure was quite low in the bathroom.

Room Tip: Older side of the hotel. You get free wifi for only 24 hours.

I travel a lot for both work and pleasure and this hotel was by far THE worst I have ever stayed in.
The hotel looks and feels like a large old hospital or some other similar institution. While located next door to the Via Rail terminal, it is a fairly long walk from the main waterfront area.
Our room was very small, just enough space for the bed really and did not have a good view of the nearby water. The first I morning of our stay there was no hot water so it had to be a cold shower to start the day! The bathtub took a very long time to drain, even when only showering. The aircon unit was old and not easy to use accurately. The room was very noisy; I could hear clothes being hung in the closet of the room next door and people in their bathroom. It was also very noisy outside as there was a very squeaky aircon fan right outside our window; there were also a lot of trucks trundling by continually after about 05.30 so it felt like we were in the middle of an industrial area. Luckily I had ear plugs and just used those every night.
The elevators are extremely slow so expect to wait quite some time for one on a regular basis. And when you get in there is no guarantee you will go to your floor. Several times it went down when all the buttons were pressed for it to go up!
In summary, I often stay with the Starwood/Westin chain and am an SPG member, and so I was very disappointed in this hotel. It seems terribly run down and not a pleasant place to stay. My advise to Starwood - either invest money into this hotel or sell it. Otherwise it will damage your reputation as right now this hotel is a disgrace.

Looked for a hotel through trivago, found a good deal with expedia. Hotel was clean, staff were friendly. Pool was nice. Hotel in great location for walking downtown Halifax and Harbour front. Hotel is older, but well maintained. Our room was in an older part of the hotel, but gave us a larger and quieter room, I would return.

Room Tip: Rooms in the older section are quieter.

Recent conference, choose the Westin, it was perfect, rooms were great, staff fantastic, close to everything, always enjoy a visit to Halifax, but now we got a new favourite place to stay! Close to the farmers market, and the Sunday brunch was excellent!

Room Tip: Rooms were very nice, comfortable, clean,

This hotel is worth the stay but seriously...if its not the air conditioning going on and off every 10 mins as it struggles to keep up, or the sound of running water constantly through the walls, it's the staff calling at 1245 am , yes after midnight, to inquire if we had the wrong luggage in our room when we,d been there for 3 days. Oh if only we could sleep.

Elevators take forever....

Now the bright side..all the rest, loved the gym, staff are friendly, beds are great, rooms just fine..location at the end of the boardwalk was quiet, great for long strolls any time of day...book the rental car here as its a far better deal than at the airport. Nice music under the clock.

Room Tip: Facing the boardwalk...elevators take forever so you may want a lower floor. If you love the gym, as...

We had a nice stay here for two nights. The location at the end of Hollis St., just by the seaport farmers' market, is an easy walk to pretty much all of downtown Halifax. The room was quite comfortable and we appreciated the fact that we could store our own items in the minibar fridge. The one negative was the mattress, which seemed to be on the elderly side. The staff were very friendly. We used the self-park lot for $18/day, which we could have cut down by just using the famers' market lot across the street (free at nights and on weekends).

We pulled up to the front door and opted for the valet parking - I felt bad for the staff since we were camping for the week before coming to the hotel so the car was filthy and we had to unpack a pile of stuff from the car. The staff were incredibly helpful and we did not feel rushed checking in. The hotel itself is very nice - maybe a little more dated than other Westin hotels but still had the same level of customer service and amenities. The room was outstanding and the beds were very comfortable. Our kids did not want to leave!

Only a couple of "complaints":
- make sure you put the do not disturb sign on the door since you will get housekeeping knocking pretty early in the morning
- the pool is salt water and not very clean
- only two elevators seemed to be working so it took us a while to get to and from our room
