The Westin Nova Scotian

Arrived in rain and chilly weather, especially for us, temperature in room 69 and never went up, called about heat, sorry, heating system not turned on yet! Usually Westins provide robes but none in our room. Amenities sparse, disappointing for a Westin.

I choose the Westin each and every time I visit Halifax for a number of reasons. The first and primary reason is because the staff are overly friendly and accommodating. I booked New Year's Eve for my mother and I because we wanted to be downtown for the Grand Parade events in the city. The Westin did not dissapoint us for the following reasons:

Quick and efficient check in with warm and friendly reception staff.
Overly eager to accommodate our need for a fan in the room and microwave.
Room was clean, quiet and beds were most comfortable.

I have written reviews of the Halifax Westin before however, I am writing this one to complement the Westin for its handling of New Year's. As New Year's is an event which could lead to excessive partying and noise at a hotel, the Westin went to all lengths to ensure that New Year's Eve was a pleasant event for all guests. There were rules and regulations to abide by (i.e. zero tolerance for loud and unruly guests) and ample security guards to enforce the rules and regulations. It definitely made for a most delightful and festive evening at the Westin.

I will stay at the Westin again for all of the aforementioned reasons.

...but a bit far from the Centre. This is a grand hotel, with a big lobby, restaurants, close to the train station (tunnel connecting it). The room was quite nice, clean, with a comfie king bed, large LCD wall mounted TV, great view, internet, mini bar, and big bathroom. There is a decent sized gym and pool. Parked on the street (weekend). Didnt use the restaurants on premise. At 50$ on Priceline, a good deal.

This is the city's best hotel but if you don't get a premium room with a harbour view, you might not know it. Rooms are okay, n othing special but opening that current on the best harbour in Canada is a real treat. Service is excellent and many great places to eat and drink, especially drink, are within walking distance. It's also close to Dalhousie University for visiting parents. All in all, a great place to stay if your room has a view.

Everyone else here on tripadvisor is covering this hotel well, so I'll try to make a few original comments -- but I have to say, it was super clean, the design was minimal and elegant, and the bed very comfortable. Hotel art in Nova Scotia is a pet-peeve of mine, but this hotel has photos in the room of maritime classics taken by someone with an Ansel Adams eye for perspective and composition. I appreciated it.
Hotel service went above my expectations. I had trouble contacting the spa to make a reservation, so I emailed someone with the hotel and they responded immediately with a solution. Similarly, everyone I encountered was helpful and made me feel taken care of.
I highly recommend this hotel and its spa. I had a great three hour treatment after flying all night. Slept like a baby.

A large and old hotel in central downtown Halifax. Small yet tasteful rooms. Great food in restaurant and room service. Close to grocery store, via rail station and liquior store.
Rooms are very small, and kind of un tateful washrooms.
A bit small for the price you pay.

We stayed for one night and everyone was very hospitible. The front desk staff was very friendly - every one of them. They always did their best to be accommodating with our requests. The hotel is older, but has gone through some upgrades - the beds were very comfortable. Many rooms are quite small, but when we asked for a bigger one, it was no problem. The only thing that we did not like was it was warm in the room for sleeping - there is a fan system, but it was not very strong as we had it on the coolest temperature. It was also a very quiet room as we overlooked the harbour and you are not in the immediate downtown core, which is nice. Parking is expensive and is not underground, but we were comped for this. Breakfast is also not included as seems to be more of a norm in other hotels now. Overall, definitely a nice stay and the service made the difference.
