“Perfect location and friendly staff”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

The Waverley Inn is in the perfect location to explore Halifax and also has a free carpark. Reception staff were very friendly and the tea, coffee and cake in the lobby was a lovely extra.
The standard rooms are quite small which they do not appear to be on their website and the breakfast in the morning is very basic.

But all in all very happy with our stay. The Thai restaurant opposite is worth a visit, be warned the portions are huge!!

Room Tip: There's no lift so if you have a lot of luggage ask for a ground floor room!

Beautiful inn - bed and breakfast actually. Front desk attendant was very helpful and informative. Fresh coffee and tea all day in the lobby, pus muffins in the morning and cookies in the afternoon/evening. Rooms well decorated, and bathrooms updated - which is rather rare in these historic inns. Great location - walking distance to Halifax water front, restaurant and shopping. Breakfast was delicious.

Room Tip: I would avoid the main floor (noise from hallway traffic) and the 3rd++ floors. We stayed on the 2n...

We started our holiday in Canada here and were very pleased we chose this inn. We spent 3 nights here and were made to feel very welcome by the staff. They told us about places to eat, listen to music and gave us directions to attractions. Although the room we were in was quite small it suited us as we were on the ground floor and out most of the time. The breakfast was good and we felt we could take as long as we wanted. It is in a good position being easy to drive to, has free parking and we could walk to all the places we wanted to see. We would recommend this place as preferable to staying in a large chain hotel.

We stayed for four nights on the first leg of a six week trip throughout Canada and this was a good start. We chose the Waverley based on reviews we had read and it was up to our expectations despite the lack of a lift. The hotel is full of antique furniture in the rooms, hallways and reception area and Oscar Wilde stayed there in the past but must have left before we arrived! The staff are all pleasant and helpful especially the various individuals manning the reception desk? The hotel is located close to the Citadel and an old cemetery where some famous townsfolk are buried-both well worth a visit. The only disappointed was the breakfast with a lack of variety especially warm food.A local pub/ restaurant Henry's House was recommended and we eat there every night as it had good value for money food with a good atmosphere, beers and pleasant staff.

Room Tip: Check other Trip Advisor reviews-we were at the rear near the car park and early mornings were a lit...

We stayed 2 nights on our recent vacation to Nova Scotia at The Waverley Inn. We were allowed an upgrade when we checked in and got a great deal on the Vanderbilt Room. The person working the desk even took us around and showed us all the empty rooms so we could choose which one we liked best. The inn is close to everything we wanted to do. It was a great experience and we would definitely stay again.

I stayed here on my first night in Canada and it just blew me away. It looks pretty unassuming from the outside, but as soon as you step over the threshold it's like going back in time with high ceilings, chandeliers and antique furniture in public areas as well as in the guest rooms themselves. Breakfast is tasty and there is a good range of options on offer. Having stayed in 4 hotels in Nova Scotia, this is by far the best value for money I found. Highly recommended.

Charming hotel that oozes character, right from walking through the stained glass door. Very friendly staff gave a warm welcome. Beautiful period furniture (though not all the same period) throughout with paintings lining the walls. Free good-sized car park (and we were allowed to leave the car there even after we'd checked out for our final few hours in Halifax which was much appreciated). The standard rooms aren't big, but you can only work within the confines of the building. Comfy bed with quite possibly the deepest mattress I've ever slept on. Everything was spotlessly clean, but particular mention must be made of the shower which was immaculate. Breakfast room was sunny and bright despite being in the basement and the selection was reasonable. Air-conditioned rooms in a great location that was really handy for the waterfront and free wifi, all in a charming package.
