Four Points by Sheraton Halifax
Ranked #15 of 28 Hotels in Halifax
Reviewed 7 August 2011

We needed a place to stay in Halifax to begin our holiday in the Maritimes. We chose the Four Points Sheraton from the reviews that we read here in Trip Advisor as well as other sites. The room we had was an inside room that didn't look out into the street, but rather into a courtyard. Many hotels that have an inner courtyard have it in grass and trees. This hotel had one on a kind of rooftop. What made it interesting was that the entire courtyard was done up in a series of murals that made it look like a city street scene. What would have been a boring view out the window turned into quite an entertaining collection of false storefronts, complete with cardboard cutout people.

The room that we were given was for the most part standard. It had two queen beds which suited our family just fine. It also came with a flat screen tv, coffee maker and refrigerator. The room was clean and the bathroom was well appointed with soaps, shampoos and lotions. The only criticism that I had with the room was that the carpets were stained. Other than that everything was fine.

As for location, it was perfect. This location was one block off the boardwalk on the waterfront. We could easily go for an evening stroll and take in the sites and huge variety of eating places nearby. All in all, it was a very good location for us, since we had never been to Halifax before. Would I stay here again if I returned to Halifax?... Certainly.

This hotel is in a fantastic location close to downtown Halifax and within easy walking distance to the waterfront, spring garden road and many great restaurants. The hotel itself was very nice although there were numerous stains on carpet in bedroom but overall very clean. We requested a crib on booking and mentioned it again on checkin and it was sitting outside our room when we got to it so very pleased with service. Unfortunately we didn't get trying the hotel restaurant as it was booked for a private function.
Overall great hotel, friendly staff and fantastic location and we would definitely stay there again when next in Halifax.

Four Points Sheraton Halifax – Needs Some Major TLC – I should start by clearly stating that great effort has been made to make improvements in this hotel. The lobby is a current design, clean and in general good repair. The rooms are well kept and clean. The location two blocks from the water would be a major average however the Halifax harbour area was very dirty during our visit, many vacate stores and a number of panhandlers active in the area. The issues start with the road noise which is a 24/7 issue since this hotel is located on a main traffic route with large trucks and motorcycle traffic at all hours. The windows do not block very much of the sound so if you want to have a full night’s sleep this will be an issue. Also of concern is the parking garage which likely will appear in a Steven King novel. It is very dirty (food bags, broken glass, pallets) poor lighting (dark corners and blinking/sparking lights), does not appear to be secured (people not staying in the hotel walking around). Also do not fall for the ocean view room trick since most views are blocked fully by the two building in front of this one.

The clean rooms and lobby do not balance the scary garage and road noise.

Halifax has a strange problem with hotels. For such an historic and interesting city there is a dearth of interesting hotels. The Lord Nelson is good, but a little removed from the downtown core. The Waverly and Halliburton are interesting, but sometimes a little too precious for most. What's left are boring, cookie-cutter hotels like the Prince George, Westin, Marriott, Cambridge Suites, Courtyard, Radisson, etc. A few years ago the Four Points seemed determined to stay out of that category; alas, we found during this stay that it's become just like the rest. The rooms and (especially) bathrooms are showing their age, the climate control in the room was twitchy, all but a few rooms have a view of another building, the TV in the room bizarrely took 60 seconds to start up and would randomly refuse to turn off, and so on. With all those quirks, and nothing else standing out about the hotel, it's become a typical Halifax hotel: not a BAD place to stay, but not a good one either.

My kingdom for a proper boutique hotel in Halifax.

We stayed at the Four Points in Halifax at the end of July 2011. The hotel is located just off the waterfront and quite near to a lot of excellent attractions and restaurants. What the hotel does best, though, are the things that I want in a hotel: clean rooms, comfortable beds, excellent bathrooms, tasty breakfast, free wi-fi, and fitness facilities. All of these more than met our requirements, at a reasonable price. Parking (at 18 dollars a day) is tad steep, but it is underground parking right near the lobby door. The Niche restaurant attached to the hotel served a fine, good-sized breakfast. There is a salt-water pool that we didn't get around to trying, but the fitness facilities are fine, there is coffee and tea in the lobby during the morning, the concierge had extra umbrellas on a very rainy day, and there was an empty fridge in the room that wasn't full of expensive hotel bar items. We would certainly stay here again. By the way, the lovely photo of the hotel has airbrushed out the enormous office tower to which the hotel is attached.

Room Tip: There are ocean-view rooms, but even the "courtyard" is relatively attractive.

I got a room right off the elevator and it wasnt even noisy. The only thing i didnt like seeing was at mid day there was the stripped bed linen on the floor outside the room doors. i know that it was checkout time but.... i guest it could not have been avoided. Enjoyed the city with my boyfriend. I had a complimentary night stay. very clean property. no complaints. great location right downtown halifax. the only thing is that to find parking before you check in- dont bother to park on the street for into the parkade right beside the hotel because i found myself going around and around halifax to find a parking meter.

Stayed 1 night - very dated finishings, included old analog T.V. Bed was comfortable, however room overlooked deserted courtyard which on the plus side meant a nice quiet night. Should have stayed at the Westin on reflection ...
