After - or before - a walk through Public Gardens you should definitely pay a visit to Smitty's. Directly across from the Gardens, and cross-corner from The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites, Smitty's is in the heart of Halifax.
Although breakfast is Smitty's bread-and-butter, and you can get it all day long, the menu covers the full range of meals.
We had breakfast, which included eggs, toast, sausages, and fresh-cut home fries. The eggs were exactly as ordered, and they even offered gluten-free toast (which I am told was excellent).
Friendly service spanned the meal. Nicely done!

My friends and I would often frequent Smitty's on Sundays during our university days (recent grad). It's a great place to grab a hearty breakfast on a Sunday, especially if you're suffering the aftereffects of an eventful previous evening at The Dome! The food is always delicious and fresh and is amazing whether you are looking for an eggs and bacon dish or more of a pancake/french toast meal. Unfortunately, the wait is often the worst part about eating here. It is a very popular place to grab food on a Sunday morning so you are always going to experience a wait. The line usually moves quick quick, though. Definitely a must whether you are a student living in Halifax or just here for a quick stopover.

We have always like Smitty's. However first and last visit to the one in Bayer's Lake was very disappointing. The waitress appeared at first with menus and came back with our coffee. Then she disappeared and we never saw her again. After 25 minutes we left money for our coffee on the table and left.. No sure what happened to the waitress. Should have known it was 5:30 on a Saturday night and very few customers. Good indicator that the place is not good.

This place is good because it has all day breakfast. The pancakes were delicious but boring...I did really like the applesauce they served with them. I don't like how you can't switch sides, for example its either fruit, yoghurt, muffin or toast + hashbrows. i wanted toast and fruit instead but there would be an extra charge, very inflexible.

This restaurant is close to the corner of Spring Garden Road and South Park Street, opposite the public gardens.
We went for breakfast after an early morning appointment in town. The service was fast and efficient.
We had the "wake up your day" breakfast which includes coffee for $10.99. The food was cooked perfectly - not greasy. Excellent spot for breakfast downtown.
