Typical of Marriott Residence hotels, this one is a clean, comfort-filled room. Full kitchen to cook up what you like should you like.

"Free Breakfast" again is typical of the type offered by many such hotels. Waffle-Maker, muffins, fluffy yellow stuff that they call eggs (?), some fresh cut fruit and types of sausage.

The staff were "as usual", amazingly helpful and friendly.

There IS underground parking which during winter months is a gift. However this "gift" comes with a hefty summertime price tag of $20 per night. I have no idea if that changes when the snow becomes an issue.

It's right downtown.. in the heart of the club / bar scene so expect some Saturday night outdoor rowdiness.

The hotel staff were super-quick to deal with minor noise issues inside, so that was not an issue at all.

Showers: The room I had was furnished with a full tub and shower, with adequate force (for me).

So... Although I'm not happy about the parking fee...other than that, if downtown is someplace you wish to stay, either the Residence or Courtyard (I've stayed there too and just a few blocks away) are great choices.

Our suite was spacious and clean. The hotel location was perfect. The breakfast was good with a few hiccups on our first morning when the staff appeared disorganized. Avoid the coffee.

However, when we asked for kitchen utensils for our suite on 2 occasions, there was someone at our door within a few minutes. Impressive!

On the noise issue, we stayed on 3 weeknights. Our advice: ask for upper floors facing Grafton St and avoid Argyle St.

Lastly, we couldn't fit our van in the underground parking at $19/day. The offered parking at a garage 2 short blks away at $10.

The Residence Inn by Marriott Downtown Halifax more than met our expectations. Every staff member we met was happy to answer our questions and accommodate our requests.  The lobby and common areas and our room were clean, comfortable and well-maintained.  There were many extras that we didn’t expect.  The breakfast that was included had hot items and varied from day to day. There was onsite, secure, assigned parking. Several days during the week of our stay there were afternoon events such as a barbecue.  We could easily walk to most of the downtown Halifax attractions such as the harbour front, Pier 21 and the Citadel.  Thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcome and enhancing our visit to your beautiful city!

My husband, 11 month old son, and I spent 4 nights at this hotel and I am so happy we did. The rooms were large, clean, and had all the comforts of home. This helped so much as we were travelling with a baby. Breakfast was included and was always delicious. The hotel had a laundry facility which made life easier too. What struck me the most though was the hotel staff. Every person that we encountered went out of their way for us. They couldn't do enough for us. As for location, the hotel is in a great spot near the harbour and citadel. It is near lots of restaurants and pubs. This hotel is perfect for families with young children as the rooms have all the comforts of home.

Room Tip: The suites are large and have huge closets.

Apparently there are quite a few bars in Halifax. Fun, loud, and lively bars, and many of them surround this hotel. It is a quiet oasis, offering a top notch breakfast and clean comfortable rooms. Easy walking distance to said bars, the waterfront, and the citadel. The pier 21 immigration museum was only a 15 minute walk. Enjoy a beer to cool down at the Garrison brewery along the way.

We just finished our second week+ long stay at the Downtown Residence Inn and were, again, pleased and satisfied with our choice.

Be clear: This is not a luxury spa type hotel.

That said it is solid, respectable, middle of the road, value for money accommodation: Everything anyone could want for an extended stay in downtown Halifax, whether one is working, visiting family or playing bridge. [Let me rephrase the "anyone": with "any reasonable person".]

Staff was friendly and helpful;

Breakfast was plentiful with a wide selection and the food quality uniformly good.

Hotel is clean and well kept.

Hotel is centrally located, within easy walking distance to virtually everything in or near the downtown and waterfront.

The mattress was not as good as our memory foam at home, but I never woke up with any back ache. A real plus.

The kitchenette is also a plus, particularly the right size refrigerator. There is a gas barbeque available for guest use on the rooftop patio if you don't like/want to microwave frozen dinners in your room.

We will be back our next time in Halifax.

One final comment: The hotel is in the downtown bar strip area, so expect some noise in all rooms. Other reviews do not exaggerate the overall outside noise level by much. I think the suggestion in another review below about a window replacement/upgrade program might be one hotel management might explore in its medium to longer term business plan.

Do not take the location as a negative: Downtown Halifax is one of the safest places in the world to walk and wander, notwithstanding lots of street people.

Room Tip: had asked for a quiet room and received what is probably the quietest, most secluded in the house...

This hotel is in a great location. Pretty much walking distance to anything in the downtown area....resturants, pubs, bars, waterfront etc. Was very clean, modern and up to par with what I expect when staying at a Marriott location.

Booked this hotel through a 3rd party website. I had requested an upper floor room with a King bed. Upon arriving they informed me that they did not have any King bed rooms on the upper floors available, but had taken the time to upgrade me to a 2bedroom Qyeen suite on the top floor. I was more than pleased with this upgrade.

I also called the front desk later and asked them what their late check-out policy was and was told it was no problem for an extra hour or two if I needed it. Was so nice for something to be offered and not have to fight or argue for it, which is so often now the case when travelling.

Parking was extra and underground but I knew that before arriving. Had a rooftop patio with some chairs and tables that you could sit out on with some nice views around.

Overall was a good experience, would stay here again and received great service from staff at this location.
