“Nice and quiet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2013

Not crowded with tourists - actually I was the only one. There was a gentleman praying and a priest mopping. Stone building with nice spires. Beautiful, clean stained glass of various bible stories from the old and the new testaments.

“Mystery in the Stain Glass Windows”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2013

The combination of Old and New Testament scenes in one panel design is uniquely challenging. There is a parallelism between the person or events in the bottom half Old testament panel, and the theological fulfillment or significance in the upper portion of the panel. 18 panels test your knowledge of Scripture, along with stained glass above the main alter and the two side alter windows. The original windows were destroyed on Dec. 6, 1917 by the Halifax Explosion. Franz Mayer & Co. of Munich created replacement, but not replicas of the originals. These are "Munich Style" windows, were the leaded seams are camouflaged into the design, so as not to detract from the scene. You can purchase a small book detailing the Basilica and the windows. The walk from the cruise ship is a little uphill, but worth the effort. Let me know if you enjoyed the experience as much as I did.

“Beautiful stone and architecture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013

I'm normally not a big fan of churches and basilicas, but St. Mary's is certainly worth the stop. You can hop off the pink buss and have a tour around on your way to the library just up the road or any one of the shops. The craftsmanship is wonderful inside, but I was left wondering about some of the history for we secular types.

Went to there while visiting Halifax. Its a norman gothic and granite made church located in the centre of the city. Worth a visit on your way to spring garden's shoppings area.

“Beautiful Church”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2012

If you enjoy visiting churches, you must see St Mary’s. The granite steeple is one of the tallest in the world. The church has beautiful stained glass windows. It is a catholic church, which offers services every day.
