Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: In 1820, Alexander Keith established his brewery in the heart of Halifax. Now, 196 years later, we’re proud to welcome you back into our home on Lower Water Street, the Alexander Keith’s Nova Scotia Brewery. We invite you to come and visit us at our beautifully restored and renovated brewery, and to try our exciting new beers crafted by our brewmaster, Stefan Gagliardi. Cheers to all things raised in Nova Scotia.

“Brewery”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

The frequency of tours is great - once per hour. The history provided is interesting, and I enjoyed the costumed guides but the speaking in language from 1800's with Scottish brogue was over-the-top and a little annoying. Too much acting. Generous tasting of beer at the end. It's a little pricey, so if you don't want to spend the money, go to the pub next door and taste the beers.

“Great tour if you don't take life too seriously”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

Great "tour" done by enthusiastic guides dressed in period garb. If you are looking for a serious brewery tour-forget it. If you are looking for some lighthearted fun, a couple of beers included in the tour and a nice diversion this is the place to be.

“This is NOT a Brewery. This is a show that takes place in an old brewery.”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

I was confused on what really takes place on the tour. Yes, you get beer. But the gift shop workers told me afterward the real brewery moved out in the 1970s (they were all college aged and not exactly sure). Other than beer used to be brewed in the building, there is nothing original about the brewery in the tour.

Still, it is somewhat entertaining in a Walt Disney meets Alexander Keith sort of way.

“Take a trip into the past!”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Took the brewery tour! Not like anyone taken at other breweries. Stepped back in time to 1867 with Alexander Keith himself! The actors and actresses on the tour are funny, lively and have great talent, including voices! It is well worth the entrance fee!

“Entertaining”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

The actors were very committed and a lot of fun to interact with. Shame you don't get to see the actual modern brewery (if it's even located there!) but you do learn about the process and the kind of person Keith was. Of course there's free samples at the end, as well as some excellent song and dance by the tour guides!
