Owner description: In 1820, Alexander Keith established his brewery in the heart of Halifax. Now, 196 years later, we’re proud to welcome you back into our home on Lower Water Street, the Alexander Keith’s Nova Scotia Brewery. We invite you to come and visit us at our beautifully restored and renovated brewery, and to try our exciting new beers crafted by our brewmaster, Stefan Gagliardi. Cheers to all things raised in Nova Scotia.

Loved learning about the history and the roots of Alexander Keith's. Very informative yet fun tour. Obviously the samples don't hurt either!

This is a great, fun tour for those who want to enjoy a little silliness and a pint or two.

My husband had been on the tour before, but was more than willing to do it again. The guides, all in costume and speaking in old English, stayed in character almost through to the end (one guide slipped out of character to say hello, as we had run into him the day before - but this was done quietly, without disturbing the rest of the group). The history was interesting, they kept things interactive, and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Keep in mind - because they are in character, the questions you ask may or may not be answered (someone on our group asked a question about the internet, and the guides stayed in character and refused to answer - she was told to ask the shopkeeper at the end.)

The best part is at the end, when you enter the tavern. They explain the choices (still in character), and everyone gets to try a pint (or two, depending on how quickly you drink). They sing traditional songs, one guide plays the fiddle, and they invite everyone to play a game of chance. We loved it.

Some aspects of the tour were interesting, however it was more like being in a Disney park than a Brewery tour. The acting was a bit too over the top for our liking. We have visited many wineries in the past and were expecting the tour to be similar to those, i.e. informative about the brewing process, where the ingredients came from etc. Pleased we experienced the tour but would hesitate to recommend to friends/family.

The frequency of tours is great - once per hour. The history provided is interesting, and I enjoyed the costumed guides but the speaking in language from 1800's with Scottish brogue was over-the-top and a little annoying. Too much acting. Generous tasting of beer at the end. It's a little pricey, so if you don't want to spend the money, go to the pub next door and taste the beers.

Great "tour" done by enthusiastic guides dressed in period garb. If you are looking for a serious brewery tour-forget it. If you are looking for some lighthearted fun, a couple of beers included in the tour and a nice diversion this is the place to be.
