“Clean and quiet; great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2011

We stayed twice in August 2011; a family of four in a double queen room. Hotel very clean and quiet. Staff very attentive and friendly. Many attractions are a short walk away. The Alexander Keith's historic brewery offering tours and a good restaurant/pub (Red Stag Tavern) are next door. We tried the hotel breakfast once, which was merely average. There is a nice coffee house offering breakfast sandwiches up the street.

The only minor issue was we had room 306 on our first stay which is just above the ventilation for the parking garage, and we could feel a slight vibration.

Room Tip: We suggest a room on a high floor for better view and less vibration

We stayed at the Courtyard Halifax from July 28th to August 1st. The hotel is in a great location, just a short walk to the waterfront. It is also very close to a number of great restaurants.
Our room was spacious and very clean. We were on the 8th floor which has access to an outdoor terrace with a spectacular view. The service was fantastic. Our chambermaid "swaddled" both of my kids' stuffed animals and displayed them on the pillows. Front desk staff were very helpful when suggesting nearby restaurants and activities. The pool was small and the hot tub was not very hot; however, my kids enjoyed both. Overall it was a great experience!

The Courtyard is located in the waterfront area of Halifax, a beautiful, vibrant city. Staff at checkin were very efficient and friendly. Our room was on top floor with a view of the harbour...2 cruise ships docked that day. There is a gorgeous outside terrace on this floor where you can sit and watch the happenings on the waterfront.
This hotel is close to many fine restaurants, all within walking distance. Also you can browse the shops along the waterfront or just stroll along the boardwalk.

I admit I have registered several reviews of Courtyards on TA, because there is
a wide variety of outcomes, depending on whether the building is part of CBM’s
renovation project (I’d venture to say fully 75% of all Courtyards currently
available have been built or rebuilt within the past five years), and who has
been screened to work at the individual location.

I have experienced all of the inconsistencies, from a refusal to credit a canceled reservation at one, to poor housekeeping at another, to poor food (um, every Courtyard I’ve been to in the last four years, including, alas, Halifax.) When Courtyard was promoting its breakfast with free continental breakfasts, you could almost overlook the rubbery consistency of everything but the nasty coffee.

The Halifax Courtyard, valet entrance off Salter Street, is an entirely
different experience. This is a marvelous hotel, perfectly situated on the
Halifax waterfront, that happens to have Courtyard rooms and consistency wrapped
inside what feels like a luxury hotel. Duck your car through a Belgian stone
entrance, and you’ll be greeted by a pair of engaging young men offering to take
your bags and park your car (the self-park lot across the street is actually
more expensive than valet, and it is monitored for paid windshield permits
24/7.) At check-in, you’ll find extremely helpful staff offering a warm
Canadian welcome. You’ll also find a well-appointed lobby with fireplaces,
dining area, and lounge with a familiar feel, but far better appointed than your
current cookie-cutter Courtyard.

Our eighth-story room was classic CBM: larger than a W, smaller than a Hilton,
but clean, well-laid out, with a spacious bathroom and windows that actually
opened. We had an unobstructed harbor view, and a short walk to the roof-top
deck, which turned out to be a smoking porch more than anything else. NB:
smokers remain arrogantly unaware of how offensive their habits are to
non-smokers, so despite the “This is a non-smoking hotel” sign in the lobby,
expect cigars, chain-smoking, ash-flicking, ashtray-missing tobacco-encrusted
haze, obscuring the sun and spoiling an otherwise clear day.

There is a first class steak house adjacent to the hotel, and an entrance to
what used to hold the Farmer’s Market (now decamped to a larger structure a few
short blocks south on the waterfront), but still has small shops and eateries
carved out of an old stone factory complex. The entire Halifax waterfront is
accessible by foot across the street, with a boardwalk traversing the length of
the bay. I got all of this with my room, which, including taxes and valet
parking, barely cracked $200. 5-stars.

Room Tip: Ask for highest floor available. Harbor views improve with altitude; deck accessible from 8th floor...

My husband and I stayed at Courtyard three straight Friday's in August. Each visit we were assigned the same room on the 8th floor with a great harbor and water view. There is also a terrace on that floor with a wonderful harbor and water view. We stay at Marriott properties frequently, both or us are gold elite, and chose this hotel for it's location. It is handy to restaurants, the harbor and shopping.
From the moment we walked in we felt welcome and at home. The staff is amazing, each time they promptly greeted us and went out of their way to be helpful. I am talking about all staff--everyone with whom we had contact--ex. front desk, valet, our server at breakfast, housekeeping--this is an all around gold star staff! I was so impressed with their friendliness and desire to help. I highly recommend this hotel, you will not be disappointed. When we go back to Halifax we will definitely return to this courtyard!

Room Tip: Request a water veiw. The city view would also be nice.

I usually stayed at te Marriot Harborfrontg about 1/2 mile down the street but after a mediocre experience my last trip I decided to try this Courtyard. I was blown away by the courteous staff and the hotel itself. As a platinum rewards member I was upgraded to a well appointed suite that had a view of the harbor. The valet service quickly brought the car down whenever I needed it. There are many great restaurants and shops within walking distance. Do yourself a favor and pack a windbreaker even during the summer months. The high was 57 when I was there and I scrambled to find one that was not $300. This Courtyard will be my new home away from home when I travel to Halifax!

A typical Courtyard, which means clean & simple, but you can't beat the location. Within walking distance to everything downtown. Next door to a great pub, & plenty of restaurants throughout the area. Get an odd-numbered room & you'll have a glimpse of the harbour. Hotel parking is $23 US daily. Street parking is metered Mon-Fri 8A-6P, but free at night & weekends -- & they DEFINITELY ticket. Airport shutte stops/picks-up here ($19 one way). A good choice, where I have stayed 2 different trips.

Room Tip: Odd-numbered rooms
