Went to eat with friends and the best I can say about the experience is it was decent. The food was decent, service was decent and the atmosphere was decent. For the price I'm not sure you get your money's worth at cafe chianti.

Thank Jamie M

“Fabulous rack of lamb”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

I just enjoyed a lovely Valentine's Day dinner at Cafe Chianti. The atmosphere is elegant, the service attentive. One thing lacking when we walked in was an offer to take our coats. We ended up resting them on an extra chair at our table. I noticed that other customers had done the same. The meal was fabulous starting with a shared order of calamari. I had the rack of lamb which was the best I'd ever had. My dining companion had a pasta dish that was, unfortunately, not as spectacular as my lamb! With a bottle of wine, tax and tip our evening came to $150.00. Definitely a place to go on a special occasion.

“Disappointing service”
Reviewed 16 February 2014 via mobile

Hadn't been to this restaurant in awhile so went with friends on a Thursday night. Waited almost 10 minutes at the door before someone noticed us and came to seat us. We were very disappointed in the level of service during our meal. We had ordered pre-dinner drinks but the server never came back to ask if we wanted refills or move on to wine, even our water glasses were empty.
The appetizers were just okay, Caesar salad was forgettable. Main dishes were better but not what we expected for an award winning restaurant.
All in all the meal was not a stand out and the poor service would make me think twice about returning considering the quality of other restaurants in the vicinity.

“One of the best!”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

Our third time to this high end Italian restaurant was the best The atmosphere was good and service were great.Food was unbelievable--tasty and flavourful and large portions. Went on Valentines Day-had special Valentines menu and their own to chose from unlike other places where only Valentines menu is available.Waitor was sensational-on top of great service that he provided, he brought out little dish of teardrop sweet chili peppers from Peru to sample separate from a dish it was in.Tried yellow berries from South Africa suggesting where in Halifax we could buy both if we wanted. It was busy night for him but were not aware of this-we were not rushed away and he was there almost immediately as we finished each courses--took time to chat and answer questions. All courses of the meal for both of us were tasty .The only thing is it is a bit expensive.

“1st Visit to Cafe Chianti”
Reviewed 29 January 2014

My partner reserved a table at Café Chianti to celebrate our anniversary, having not been there before, we were very much looking forward to the experience. We arrived right on time and were shown to a nice table in a large open room. The restaurant was very busy and ergo the noise level in the room was very loud with the buzz of general conversation. The room itself is underwhelming with little atmosphere, but comfortable enough. Our waiter was professional, if not overly attentive or personable. Our wine was delivered and poured but was never refreshed throughout our meal, we were left to pour it ourselves which is not in itself a big deal but one would expect more from an establishment of this level. We ordered appetizers which were very nice, but not exceptional. The calamari was delightfully light and tender but the sauce although very tasty, was very heavy for the delicacy of the dish, in our opinion. The Ciopino (seafood soup) was again, very good but did not stand out in any way, I've had better in other restaurants.. We both ordered the lamb as our main course and other then the length of time we had to wait for it (an hour and a half from the time we were seated), was AMAZING! The meat was tender, flavourful and done to a turn; a perfect med-rare. It was accompanied by polenta which was perfect and vegetables that were wonderful and crisp. Quite honestly, this was the best lamb I've ever had and Peter was in total agreement. But for the lamb, we would not have been overly impressed with our experience but it was saved by this especially delicious main course. Would definitely go back for the lamb, but would most likely skip the appetizers.
