We'd been travelling across Canada and discovered a hidden gem in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. The Lionstone Inn.
Having stayed at a number of establishments during our travels, we encountered a variety of oddities with some places we stayed. Staying at the Lionstone was a breath of fresh air. We were so tired from the previous night's location that was so noisy. We got to the Lionstone and discovered the peaceful environment we were looking for. The hosts were very friendly and run a "no-nonsense" establishment. The other people staying there were enjoying themselves but without the "out of control" parties we'd previously encountered at other places. Also, I cannot stress enough how clean and well maintained the Lionstone was. Bedding, towels, the rooms themselves were excellent! The grounds were immaculate and the rooms exquisitely clean and comfortable.
The location is perfect - close to the Northumberland Ferries access and at the rotary leading to the surrounding communities. Right next to grocery store, coffee shop, and more. Pictou is a quaint, delightful town. I was amazed considering all we got out of our stay, how inexpensive the rooms are. I slept like a baby!
We will return to the Lionstone again and again!

Wonderful place to stay with excellent highway access. The room I stayed in had a kitchenette and there were a couple of restaurants close by that delivered to the Inn. The staff was amazing. Extremely courteous and quick to solve any problems. I had an issue with connecting with their WiFi and they kept taking the time to help me without making me feel like a knob. I definitely will stay there again on my next trip to Nova Scotia.

Visited with a baseball team of 10 year old boys. 4 of our cottages were without hot water. Owner arrived barked at our group for using picnic tables for a team pizza party. Told coaches wife that there would be no accommodation for lack of water, and that if they couldn't fix it. That was "too bad.". Never been treated so badly in a completely unprovoked setting.

Same group of guests from an earlier review...a baseball team that were extremely disruptive to other guests.

This particular guest brought a dog into the cabin without notifying mangement. This is extremely inconsiderate and exposes our staff to a potentially dangerous situation. The group of boys were allowed to run unsupervised around the other rooms, and the parents removed picnic tables that belonged to other rooms, upsetting other guests. The water pipes in question were repaired within two hours of noticing the break in the line. Any lack of hot water was due to the fact that 10 people were showering at the same time and simply needed to wait for a few minutes while the tanks reheated themselves.

As I mentioned in my other mangement response, we strive to maintain a quiet peaceful atmosphere for all our guests. This particular group was reminded of this upon checkin but decided the rules didn't apply to them, requiring us to speak with them about the disruption they were causing to those around them.

Sometimes people need to be told. They were told.

Had 14 families, all with 10 year old well mannered boys as part of a baseball team stay here. Many of the rooms had no hot water and some with no water. When we mentioned it to the front desk the owner showed up and was rude and ignorant to the parents and stated if they were unable to fix the problem that was too bad as that happens. Apparently this was due to moving a picnic table for a pizza party for the kids.

Guests were part of a sports team who decided they could make all sorts of noise despite being asked to keep it down when they checked in. Guests also took picnic tables and lawn chairs from adjoining units without asking, and were blocking the driveway when we arrived to address the water issue. Again, we asked them to keep it down as the noise level was inappropriate. We also pointed out that they should have checked with the front desk before assuming you can 'take over' the picnic tables and chairs'.

Although a water pipe burst in the middle of the afternoon, the problem was fixed in a couple hours and guests were able to shower in the morning. The following morning, although the issue was addressed, guests ran the tank dry and simply needed to wait 10 minutes for the tank to reheat. Guests tried several times to get a discount but we had already given them a great rate.

Guests were extremely rude to us and our staff and are welcome to stay elsewhere in the future. We try to maintain a respectable business and we will deal with noisy/problem customers in a prompt and direct manner in order to assure everyone has a pleasant stay.

This group was no exception to the rule.

We stayed for one night in one of the cottages and only paid $54 - so the price was terrific.
The cottage was small and very close to the other cottages. It was evident many customers come here for their family vacation and stay to enjoy the attractions of Pictou. We were only here one night before going on north to Cheticamp. The cabin was clean. The bed was hard, but we slept well. There is no air conditioning, and none is needed. They do provide a fan, and you can open the windows for the cool breezes. The shower worked well. I would return and stay longer if I needed such a great price. Everyone was very friendly.

My boyfriend and I decided to take a road trip to Nova Scotia. We had no plans other than to find a fishing village that was quaint and what we had both pictured in our minds what Nova Scotia to be. We ended up in Pictou. And to our surprise we found a great place to stay... The Lionstone Inn, what a great surprise it was to find something that was so affordable and perfectly located. We stayed in one of the cottages. It was very very clean and comfortable. I even noticed that the maids change the comforters after each stay. And the pressure in the shower was simply amazing! The owner and his staff are super friendly. I plan on coming back next year.
