Description: We are a quaint, soulful, independently owned cafe in the heart of downtown Barrie with a focus on fresh and conscious eating. Open seven days a week we offer a breakfast and lunch menu that strongly emphasizes vegetarian and gluten free options along with locally raised, free range chicken. Everything is made in house including our sandwich bread which is a whole wheat focaccia & our soups which are always made gluten free. The Lazy Tulip vibe is worldly, spiritual & funky. Music is a big part of the atmosphere which ranges from Indian tablas to local musical talent to current faves. We serve Planet Bean coffee, a small micro-roaster from Guelph and it's full flavored, fair trade and certified organic.

“Great find in Barrie, ON”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

On our way from Barrie to Blue Mountain, we stopped to get some lunch food to go, since we knew Blue Mountains in pretty limited in veg foods (no dairy no eggs). Although they were still serving breakfast, they were accomodating at creating some very delicious Thai Tofu wraps to go that we devoured later at Blue Mountain. Also, loved their fair trade coffee and they had almond milk. They even had a cranberry vegan cookie that was quite tasty.

The atmosphere there is very cozy, perfect for a quick rendez-vous with a friend or just a solo venture to read a book and have a great coffee.

P.S. The wraps were AMAZING. Tofu was perfectly marinated and flavoured and it was loaded with sprouts, which is always a welcome.

“A nice find in downtown Barrie”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

My husband found The Lazy Tulip online, and we tried it out for lunch with my in-laws. It's a very small place, but a good amount of seating inside, and a small patio outside (it can be windy as the waterfront is only a block further down the street, so hang on to your sun umbrella!) They've got a great list of sandwiches and specials. I had the Mediterranean on fresh foccaccia which was amazing, and obviously a favourite of the locals as several people dropped in while we were eating to order it. Everyone else at the table had the pear and brie on foccaccia which they all loved. Each sandwich came with a great side salad featuring a tarragon vinegrette and mung bean sprouts. I tried the lemon ginger iced tea which was really fresh and zingy. A vegan cookie with cranberry and walnut proved to be a little too dry for my taste, but nice to know they've got vegan options (such as their Buddha tarts - butter tarts without the butter). This place is two blocks away from the Flying Monkey brewery - so a great lunch place before you go for a tour of the brewery!

“ok little spot”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

tried this place for the second time because of its appealing menu.
the coffee is very good, food was ok
service was slow and unapologetic
it is unaccommodating for people with small children or babies, perhaps trying to deter this type of clientele (or this is how it feels)
if you have time and no children however, it's a cozy little spot to enjoy a healthful meal and very decent coffee

“Simple foods”

Had soup and sandwich there. It was good but didn't blow my expectations that motivated me to visit after reading the reviews. Cute location.

“Monday morning seating for 9 - and they pulled it off!”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

We dropped in for breakfast with little notice one Monday morning - 9 of us (2 families). The poor woman running the restaurant was all by herself and clearly surprised to have to handle so many on what is likely normally a slow day. The restaurant is tiny but was able to accommodate us at 3 tables - and the new and improved menu was pretty limited anyway so picking was straightforward.

We all ordered - coffees, smoothies and mains - including 3 or 4 French Toast. Shortly after our hostess/barista/server/chef returned and apologized that she only had one order of french toast left. No problem, we added a few more breakfast sandwiches.

Several other patrons came in while we were there and everyone was surprised at the number of guests - but super polite and willing to wait for service - all very understanding of the situation. I thought that was great.

When it was all said and done we had a great breakfast, casual and not rushed but not slow either. The waitress was great and did a good job keeping things moving and accomodating us. The kids loved the smoothies and the food we had was very respectable.

All in all a good stop - it would be nice to have a few more options, and to have what was on the menu available, but given the time of day and day of the week, and number of us - it went as well as we could have expected. Thanks for the nice start to the day.

Thank you for your review!!! You all were so nice and patient! It's true....we don't usually get walk-ins of such large groups. And how unfortunate we didn't have more of the baked french toast that day. We are sure to stay stocked on everything now.

Thanks again for coming!!! :)
