“Celebrity chef barbecue a real treat!”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

What an enjoyable and memorable event! We had never been to one of these events before and came to see our favourite chefs, Anna and Michael Olson.

The barbecue was held on the expansive lawn in front of the main house in a large tent. Since it was a barbecue the ladies wisely had left their high heels at home. Service was buffet style. There were several choices of meat from the barbecue: crispy pork bellies (my favourite), duck, veal, and chicken with various delicious sauces matched to the meats. There were several tables of salads, fresh bread baked on the premises, Langdon Hall's very own butter, cheese, and a delicious gazpacho. Everything was delicious and of course we could eat as much as we wished. Lastly were the desserts, all made on the premises and every one a treat. I could hardly move at the end of the meal.
Some nice added touches were live music and an open fire with upholstered benches for seating. Anna and Michael visited each table of diners for a chat. What a delightful couple!
We stayed overnight and had breakfast on the rear patio in the morning. What a beautiful setting under a large tree manicured into the shape of a large umbrella. Everything was delicious. The croissants were to die for! Service was attentive and friendly.
I am looking forward to return visit.

“Celebrity Chef BarBQ Not As Expected”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

I guess that this event has gotten bigger and they moved it from the patio to a tent in the front field? Tent was quite a hike from the road, especially for ladies in heels. We were not expecting a Porta Potty as high end a model as it was:-). Food was good, service horrible. 30 minutes to get wine 30 minutes for the check. $69 a plate was a bit high considering. Went into the hotel after and they were too busy to do a mixed drink, just beer and wine.
BarBQ not their core business and they did not seem to have the infrastructure in place to support it.

“Beautiful setting, fabulous service, teeny tiny exquisite portions”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

The outdoor terrace is lovely, especially in this good weather, and the food is really delicious but be ready for the tiniest of portions. I don't need the gargantuan portions we have grown to expect at the 'family' restaurants but I do think that these portions are especially tiny. They are wonderfully plated, artistic strokes of sauces, imaginative reworkings...try the 'smore dessert. Just little of it.

I still recommend going, as it is a wonderful place on its own. Just be prepared.

“Great food”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We had the tasting menu and we were not disappointed. The chef was gracious to make all sorts of changes to the menu due to dietary restrictions. However the presentations were fantastic and the food was well cooked. some of their best dishes were desserts. The breakfast was a nice buffet but we were too full to have many servings.

“Major Disappointment - Avoid this overpriced Showpiece”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We were looking forward to a fine meal in a quiet setting, at the standards of Relais & Chateaux. OK, they have the "form" but just forgot about the "content." As with another reviewer, we felt the service was not only inattentive, sloppy, and lacking in co-ordination, but one staff came with a filthy apron. Food was average or below, and completely uninspiring. There are so many better options!
