Owner description: Witness the social and mechanical life of Canada's early industrial revolution. Housed in a 150-year-old Waterworks, this National Historic Site preserves two 45-foot high, 70-ton steam engines, perhaps the oldest surviving Canadian-built engines. The historic Hamilton Waterworks is a Civil and Power Engineering Landmark. The museum offers guided tours, various permanent and changing exhibits and features special events for the whole family, including Live Steamer Days from May through October.

I took my cub-scout pack here for an interactive learning experience called defending the pump. The activity leader was super knowledgeable and engaging and she kept the kids very interested throughout the time we were there. I highly recommend this experience.

I attended the Hamilton Mini Maker Faire here last month and it was a blast!

The area was filled with vibrant young people avidly discussing the future of Hamilton and the rest of the world.

The large machinery inside the old buildings was very cool to look at as well.

I suggest bringing your children here and showing them just how big machinery can get!

The Hammer City Makers do a fantastic job putting on the Mini Maker Faire. We are very glad to have the opportunity to work with them and host it at the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology. Keep a look out - the Mini Maker Faire is Happening in September for 2018.

There's always a lot to learn when visiting a museum, and I got way more than I bargained for. Unfortunate that we weren't able to see the turbines in motion, but still an excellent experience. Majestic beautiful machinery! A school bus full of kids was arriving as we left. They would certainly be in for a treat!

Thanks for sharing! The stationary steam engines should be up and running by April 2018 at the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology. Hope you have a chance to come back and see then in action.... AMAZING

A great place to visit for all of the family, seeing how the water is pumped from the lake to give us water to use is something all need to understand. The history of the building and the engineering to create this place is a marvel. Love the new changes!
As young kids, mine always loved the steam train during summer events.
