In early August my friend needed some surgery at the University hospital. The manor is located within a 10 minute walking distance (very convenient). The hotel part of the Manor was built in the 80s and still use keys for the doors. There is an elevator although it is only a total of 4 floors including the lower level. There is coffee in the small foyer and most usual appliances in the suite we had (not a room). Comfortable and clean is how I would describe it. They even has hives for their colony of Bees on site. The Great hall where breakfast is served is beautiful. You can see why small wedding receptions are held here. Breakfast was a basic hot buffet. I would rate it as 3 out of 5. If you need somewhere to stay close by the hospital for around $120-$140 a night in the summer time, this is a good stay.

I stayed here for a week for a conference. I had a room on the third floor, which was spacious, clean and comfortable (although the bed might have been a little soft for some tastes, I found it fine, and enjoyed some of the best nights sleep I've had in a while). The room was very quiet, with little noise coming in from outside (perhaps due to being on the top floor, judging from some of the other reviews), although some of my colleagues did comment on being able to hear their neighbours (I'm also not sure I'd want a room close to any of the ice machines, as they do make quite a racket!) In room facilities were fine, with strong (if, perhaps, a little loud) air conditioning. The hotel has a small fitness room, with an exercise cycle and treadmill (both of good quality), and TV. This could perhaps benefit from a fan or better aircon, as the room did tend to get a little warm during a vigorous workout.

Breakfast was reasonable, with a buffet selection. I didn't try the cooked breakfast (available for a surcharge), but it looked good.

For dinner, we tended to eat in the on-site restaurant, as there weren't many options on campus. The general quality of the food was excellent, with a good selection of local produce. Staff were attentive and knowledgable. In fact, the staff are one of the best things about the whole place - it might seem a little unfair to single out individuals for particular praise, when everyone was great, but Spencer on the front desk was very helpful, and Angela in the restaurant showed admirable patience and good humour when dealing with 12 academics having dinner...

Overall, a great experience, and I'll certainly be back if I'm ever in London again.

Room Tip: Top floor room, facing the back of the hotel (you look onto trees), probably 301 or 303.

I recently stayed at this hotel with my family including 3 children and enjoyed the weekend.

The rooms were pleasant although a little dated and lacking the quality of finishes that you find in a newer hotel.

Unfortunately there was a rather noisy guest in the room above us on the first night and it was tough to sleep well. Fortunately, the hotel was great and moved us to the top floor for our second night and everyone slept much better.

The restaurant on site was very nice for both the included breakfast and the one dinner we enjoyed there with good food and live music.

Thank-you for also mentioning your positive experience at Windermere’s Cafe; it sounds like you must have had dinner on a Friday and enjoyed the Friday Jazz Night!

The surroundings are beautiful, quiet and very well-kept. The staff were accommodating and helpful and our room was huge and equipped with great facilities. We arrived late but could still enjoy dinner in the Cafe, which had great service and food. Live jazz music was playing, too, and everybody was extremely nice there, as well. Breakfast was rich and I would have preferred to stay much longer than one night!
