“Perfectly Pleasant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2010

We stayed here because we were attending a wedding reception very close by. We were early, and arrived about 3 hours before the check in time. The girl at the front desk called the maid to find out how soon our room could be ready for us. It would be ready 45 minutes, which gave us time to have some lunch, then we were able to check in. We had a suite on the 3rd floor (which is the top floor). It was a good size, clean, and aside from the decor needing an update, and maybe a larger tv would be nice, we really couldn't say anything negative. The air conditioner worked well, the beds were very comfortable. And maybe it was because we were on the top floor, but it was very quiet.
The breakfast that is included is fine, but nothing spectacular. The price seemed a little high to us, but overall it was a pleasant stay.

Rooms are very old and dirty, there was mold growing on the wall around the heating unit and the window, the staff was extremely unfriendly and told my friend and I they could recommend somewhere else to stay after we expressed concern for the parking lot being blocked off. The price of the rooms were horrible for what you got, and we had to park and block and a half away from the enterance and the parking lot was being saved for day trip guests and not the guests like us who had booked for an extended stay. The manor has NOT been restored to the victorian as they boast but more the 70's era. Our reservation was lost for the Sunday brunch and therefore we had to miss out on brunch. There are other more beautiful less expensive places in London to stay PLEASE PLEASE shop around before staying at the Windermere Manor!!

The Windermere Manor is in a great location for those travelers needing to stay close to UWO or the hospital. It's a pretty basic hotel with an antique feel. There is no central heating in the rooms and the heating unit is quite loud. I was freezing while in the shower, even though the water was hot! The bed was definitely comfortable and the service was great!

The room was very clean, the staff was nice, the evening buffet was OK but the breakfast was just aweful. Truly one of the less tasty breakfast buffet I have encountered. Another point is that it's not convenient to walk anywhere. However, if you must walk to the University, then this is a great location.

If you want to get rested before any important meeting, don't stay here. If you got a room in the first floor, you will hear the squeaking floors upstairs all night long and you wont be able to sleep.

The Windermere Manor is convenient if you can walk to the University of Western Ontario (but this is something that you can't do during the winter and in bad weather). The standard room I stayed in was alright BUT the hotel seemed to be built with sound-magnifying materials. You can hear the smallest noise from occupants in the neighbouring rooms and hallways. For example, the person in the room above mine was up and about from 6 a.m. I could hear every sound made. Also, be aware that room service is only available when the restaurant is open, so if you should arrive late as I did and have no transportation, you'll go to bed hungry or have to call for a pizza delivery (which turned out to be an unappetizing option). On the plus side, the front desk staff are friendly and helpful, and the continental breakfast buffet was adequate. However, I would definitely stay elsewhere if I should be in the London area again.

  • Liked — Breakfast was adequate and convenient.
  • Disliked — Noisy rooms.

During a very distressing time our family required accommodations in London Ontario very close to University Hospital where my husband had cardiac surgery. I found this place on my own while browsing the internet for accommodations close to the hospital and this establishment caught my interest. Proximity to the hospital was my number one reason for chosing Windermere Manor. They offer a "medical rate" for families of hospital patients. We stayed for a total of eight nights. The first five nights our children came along so we needed a suite. The next three nights I booked a standard room as I was alone. Windermere Manor is located in a quiet area surrounded by trees. A very peaceful and serene property. You do not hear traffic. You are away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is only a two minute drive from the hospital and it could be walked in ten minutes which we also did. It takes you longer to find parking in the hospital parking garage than it does to drive from the Manor!! The rooms are very clean, spacious, the bedding is very comfortable with thick mattress padding, luxurious linens, gorgeous white duvet, large plush pillows and not just one per person, but two per person. The suite had a kitchenette, with fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, sink, countertop with cupboards and dishes available upon asking, table and chairs, living room, bedroom with large French doors to close off the living room, large closet and bathroom. Two TV's.The standard room was a smaller version with a king size bed, no kitchenette , but a fridge which was good to have along with a coffee maker, but no toaster and microwave. In both rooms you could not hear voices of other guests, but you could hear the people above you walking, I guess the floors/ceiling are thin. We had breakfast included which was served in the cafe. This cafe also serves meals, lunches and supper. The menu has a nice selection and one would call this "fine dining". We did not dine here only because our circumstance did not find us in the mood to fine dine. The cafe has a nice atmosphere, beautifully set tables with linens and china. It is set out in the woods as a patio you might say, of course with it being winter it is enclosed, but you can see outside. This property is so relaxing to come to after a challenging day. The only complaint I have is the breakfast. Although it is beautifully presented, I found the selection poor and at times it was not stocked and you had to ask for simple things like cream, butter, cream cheese. There were too many sweet things like muffins, danishes, scones, cinnamon rolls and no breads or plain rolls or croissants and that makes it difficult for someone who does not like sweets for breakfast. They do have bagels. Well, I did find out that I could get toast, just had to ask for it. They did have instant oatmeal and various cold cereals. The fruit bowl was not the greatest, it was poor, chopped up fruit and only two or three fruits. For an establishment of this calibre the breakfast could have been better. The staff was very pleasant and aimed to please. I recommend Windermere Manor to anyone and especially a medical stay. Upon talking with people I met at the hospital they were paying more at your usual hotels that are so commercialized. I believe I had the best stay!
