We purchased the living social thinking of eloping. The total package was $250 and was suppose to include gift passes and wine tour. We ended up getting married on April fools day and using this as our honeymoon.
Check in was easy but the clerk was rude since we did NOT print our voucher. I was told on the phone I could upgrade upon arriving to a king bed and whirlpool for free if that was available. Upon checking in the rude clerk wanted $30 per night extra, but gave one night for free since it was the honeymoon.
The room was nice. 17th floor. The wall paper behind the curtain was peeling. The whirlpool tub appeared old and well used. Overall nice room but sadly they were cleaning windows this week outside and we had ropes dangling outside.
The dinner coupons they provided were all expensive places.
The wine tour was a self guided self taken tour all they really did was pre pay the wine tasting fee which is only 5 or 7 unless you purchase a bottle then its free anyway.
Breakfast was decent food for buffet. Cook to order eggs. But the receipt had $46 avg for breakfast seemed inflated.
Overall GOOD deal and still worth the trip. Nice view even though the hotel in on the back side of the falls.

If you can get a falls view in this hotel, that is worth the value. Don't expect the rooms to impress you as they are quite dated. The lobby area and mezzanine are nice, and the Milestones/Starbucks inside is convenient.

Great view, great restaurant, great beds, Great tub, Only struggle we had was a Dance convention made the lobby extra full, But I could see how it was convenient for 100 of little guys running around and pushing all the elevator buttons. We had our teen age daughter and or 11 year old Grandaughter not involved in the recital. It made it a real challenge to catch the elevator

Room Tip: 2401 had a awesome view, but understand most the rooms on the hotel are

My family just returned from a weekend at the Marriott Gateway. We won our room through priceline bidding and felt we had paid a fair price for a 4* in Niagara. When I called the hotel to confirm our room, I opted to upgrade to a Superior Fallsview room for a fee, ($20/night - which I felt was reasonable).

Pros:

-All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.
-The wego stops right in front of the hotel.
-The view from the Superior Fallsview room we had was fantastic.
-The pool area was very clean and well attended to, (on both occasions we were at the pool there was someone there cleaning and a fellow even came to check the temperature and chemicals in the hot tub).
-The linens were a good quality and the beds were very comfortable.

Cons:

-The parking fee of $20/night plus tax is steep for outdoor parking.
-There is a charge for wifi.
-The elevator is beyond slow - we had read the reviews prior to our stay and fully anticipated that this would be the case but we didn't expect it to be that bad. There was no way to fully prepare for this.... On the Sunday, we gave ourselves about 25 minutes to catch the elevator and we still ended up missing our bus to Clifton Hill, (which only comes every 40min on Sunday - we had to drive and pay for parking downtown). The frustration was evident among the visitors and staff at the hotel... If you add the time up over a weekend, you're probably wasting an hour or two waiting for the elevator.
-Although rated a four star, the room was far from 4* quality. There were stains on the floor and on the furniture and it did not appear to have been vacuumed. The decor was dated. The bathroom? It was an okay size...but again fairly outdated.

I don't think that we would return to this Marriott unless the elevator system was greatly improved. It is so detrimental to your vacation experience...and the fact that the hotel seems to 'nickel and dime' you for everything on top of it, (parking, wifi, expensive food options).

TIPS:

-Head over to Tony Roma's (next door) for their breakfast buffet. It was a very reasonable price - $28 plus a tip for 2 adults and a child. And the staff were amazing! We picked up to breakfast sandwiches (that were terrible) and a cinnamon roll for $18 at the Starbuck's in the lobby...you definitely get a better bang for your buck next door.

Good Day time_to_relax,

Thank you for your feedback. We are working to rectify the issues with our elevator system to minimize wait times. I apologize for the issues during your stay with the elevators. I also apologize for the cleanliness issues in your guestroom. That is most disappointing when away for a nice getaway.
I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we may provide you with a better experience.

We have stayed at this location a number of times. Never had a problem.
Check in was fine we paid for an upgrade. Room was very nice with a very nice view.

Went to Milestone's for dinner service was great. All was well until after dinner.

10:15 PM. We started to hear kids running in the halls. We expect some noise it was March Break. We called the front desk 4 times between 1015-11PM. There were unattended children in the room next to ours. Security finally came but this did not help. Noise continued until 1245AM. A parent did return to yell at the kids. Then left again.

The next morning we went to the front desk. They told us that they had tried to fix the problem.
They said some guests on the floor below were asked to leave overnight. Some parties going on in the hotel that evening.

The desk clerk did not want to discuss our bill. He said they tried to deal with the noise. Clearly they were unable to fix the problem. He did reduce our bill by $40

We left exhausted I emailed the person that replies to these comments on this site Mr. Chow not one word back as of yet.

How it it that we paid good money to be disturbed by a bunch loud un attended children. Front desk unable to deal with loud disruptive guests.

Room Tip: Ask where the hockey teams are and ask for a different floor.

Good location and the room had a great fallsview views...if they actually cleaned the windows. I stayed here when it was a Sheraton a couple of times and the windows were always clean! The room was okay, but it really didn't look like it had been updated since Marriott took over. But it was clean, Beds were pretty comfortable and bedding was nice. There was NO heating in the hallways, elevator, lobby --- freezing...don't think about going to the pool and go back to the room in the winter, you will freeze! Since I know what this hotel was like previously in the winter, the only thing I can think is that they were trying to save money by shutting the heat off. And be careful of the packages they offer, yes dinner voucher may be included but you can't use it unless you make reservations way in advance...and the greeter at the milestones was rude, and ignorant when she told us with a little smirk that there was over an hour wait. If it is that busy why would they not tell us , knowing we had the package, when we checked in or offer to book a reservation? You have to choose your floor before you get into the elevator and then it tells you what elevator to take...very confusing for a lot of people - they should have saved the money and heated the hallways. The price was right, the stay was okay...will likely second guess staying here again.

Good Day Cashmra,

Thank you for sharing your comments with us. I am sorry that we did not provide you with the perfect stay. I apologize for the elevator issues during your stay. We had our elevator company onsite to try to rectify the issues but they were unable to do so at the time. We are continuing to work on this new system so that it is efficient for our guests. I wanted to give this hotel a perfect rating. I really did. The service was wonderful from the front desk, to the restaurant to the bar. Everyone was friendly and helpful and went far and above to make our stay enjoyable. The hotel was clean, our room was comfortable, and the view was spectacular.

I could not however overlook the one drawback. The elevator system is horrible. The average wait was about 10 minutes and the elevators were slow and overcrowded. The hotel should really evaluate if the new system is really a convenience to the users. I say no.

But back to the positive. My husband and I were looking for a quiet retreat for a restful weekend away. Upon checking into our room, we found that we were on a very noisy floor due to a children's hockey tournament in town. One call to the front desk and we were upgraded to the 25th floor with a gorgeous view of the falls. The next morning when we realized that we had forgotten an item in our old room, the bellman brought it to us right away and with a smile on his face.

The breakfast buffet was awesome and with the vouchers for discounts on the buffet and dinner, we felt like our weekend away was a steal. We will definitely return.
