Skyline Hotel & Waterpark
Ranked #33 of 127 Hotels in Niagara Falls
Reviewed 16 August 2010

Overview – a clean, well run, budget hotel (similar standard to a Holiday Inn Express or Comfort Inn) in a decent location. However, if you are expecting a view of the Falls from your room or anywhere in the hotel, this is not the place for you. We booked this hotel specifically to use the Fallsview Waterpark and had twin 5 year olds with us.

Location – fairly central – on a quiet street, a five minute walk to Fallsview Avenue and to Clifton Street. It is on a slight hill so you are walking uphill back to the Skyline from Fallsview Avenue. There is a Planet Hollywood restaurant and large multi-storey car-park directly across the street. The hotel has its own attached car park but spaces are limited. It cost us approximately $10Cdn/day to park at the hotel – we were provided with a ticket to place on the car’s dashboard. If the hotel’s car park was full, you could use the same ticket to park at the multi-storey across the street.

Hotel Staff – very courteous and friendly.

Hotel room - We stayed in a Courtyard room with two queen beds on the ground floor. The room’s only window faced an indoor courtyard. The courtyard was pleasant and bright with a variety of seating. However, as the courtyard tended to be a ‘meeting spot’ for guests, we often had to keep our bedroom curtains drawn for privacy. As a result, the room was dark all the time, even with all the lights on. This didn't bother us too much as it was just a place to sleep. The room itself was clean and comfortable. There was an air-condition unit in the room which was loud - we could control the thermostat in the room but every time the air-condition unit kicked in which seemed to be often in the night, it woke us up. You could fill in a card to let housekeeping know a preferred time slot you wanted your room cleaned or not at all. The housekeeping service appeared very well run – there would be many housekeeping carts around all the time.

Room amenities - plenty of towels, basic coffee/tea maker, tv with a couple of kids' channels, wireless internet access, free daily newspapers (at reception), empty bar fridge for own use (this was great). There is NO in-room safe -perhaps not to be expected from this level of hotel but it would be a great plus.

Bathroom – very clean and seemed new. However, it is also very small (considering that this hotel caters to families) and lacked counter space as well as hanging space for towels.

Noise – It is true that the walls were thin and sound travelled easily. We were in Courtyard 3 and the guests there were considerate and kept children’s noise levels down.

Connected walkway to Waterpark – We liked the indoor skywalk to Fallsview Waterpark – this was like a private entrance to the Waterpark for Skyline guests. The entrance to the skywalk at the hotel is on the 3rd floor - however, elevators only go up to the second floor. There is a lift for disabled persons to take you from the 2nd to the 3rd floor but you will need to phone for assistance. We noticed many parents carrying strollers up the final short flight of stairs as this was presumably faster. When you get to the top, the door is accessed using your room card. Just for your information, if you stayed at the Crowne Plaza, there is bank of elevators in the hotel that takes you straight up to the waterpark’s main entrance – however, this same elevator is connected to the multi-storey parking garage so there would be stops on the way. When it is busy, there can be long waits for the elevators.

Breakfast Package – we booked a waterpark breakfast package. It was certainly cheaper to book the waterpark this way. It cost an extra $30 total per day for a family of four to add the breakfast element – Upon check in, you are given a voucher for Perkins Restaurant that is right next door - this entitled you to a set breakfast of 2 eggs, sausage or bacon, toast, hashbrowns and a beverage or a $10 Cdn credit per head ($40 Cdn total). The breakfast at Perkins had generous serving portions but was average quality. They also have a kids menu that you could order from for under $10Cdn per meal.

All in all, a good basic hotel.

This is an absolutely lovely Inn. Newly redecorated, rooms were lovely and spacious. everything was new and clean. Very refreshing. Our room looked out onto a private courtyard - very nice. Located right across the street from the "old" casino - very handy. Perkins Family Restaurant was part of the building as well - excellent eating and well priced. Very accommodating - we got in early and our room was ready so we could check in 4 hours earlier than expected! Parking was very secure in a large garage. Highly recommend this lovely Inn.

Let's start with the positive:
-Skyline Inn is in close proximity to everything you might want to see as a tourist, right at Clifton Hills tourist area and nightly attractions. Connected to Perkins and a water park. Within steps of the casino. We were able to walk to everything, sometimes we didn't need our car to get around.
-was easy to get to from YYZ airport
-clean rooms, somewhat updated - the Skyline was a good value, very inexpensive
-my husband said the staff was very friendly at check-in
-ear plugs in the room and movie night in Courtyard #2 was a cute little touch, I thought
-good for families

So now, what I didn't care for about the Skyline:
-THE PARKING was horrible, there was none right at the hotel. Wow, the parking spots at registration are so tight! I noticed several folks needed someone to get out of the car and help guide the driver in and out of spots in both the registration and main parking spots. We had to park in the large parking structure across the street.
-we were on the somewhat noisy street facing side of the hotel (facing Planet Hollywood) so maybe that's why they had the ear plugs in the room too.
-small bathroom, I think the smallest I've ever seen in a while.
-HORRIBLE ventilation
-not enough pillows and my husband was told they were out of pillow when he requested more at the desk.
-no views of anything at this hotel, so if you've looking for view of the Falls, you probably wouldn't want to stay here

I would recommend someone with a family, folks on a budget, someone with lower expectations to stay here. I wouldn't stay here again, but it was what it was and it was good enough for our short stay at the beautiful Niagara Falls.

Skyline is a great hotel if you are on a serious budget, because the value is amazing. We stayed in the three queen room, which was the largest room I have ever stayed in. Plenty of room for the kids to run around. The room was pretty clean and I am a little bit of a germaphobe. The towels were a little hard and I kept finding hair on them...eck! But other than that decent room. Our view was of an alley and at one point a delivery truck pulled right up to our window....while we were getting dressed. Oh and the bed was like sleeping on cardboard covered bricks. Not comfortable at all!! This is strictly a family hotel!

Now for the good stuff: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!!! This hotel is literally right off of clifton hill. A very short walk from all the fun. It is also the shortest walk to the waterpark. The staff here is amazing. The front desk is so personable and very helpful. They kind of make up for the mediocre room.

Just returned from a 1 night getaway with my wife and 2 daughters (ages 6 and 3) and had a wonderful time at Skyline Inn. The location is ideal as many of the Niagara Falls attractions are within walking distance and you can simply access the Fallsview Waterpark from within the hotel. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are very modern and super spacious. Our room had 2 queen beds and separate area within the room complete with bunk bed and tv. What more can one ask for. The most pleasing aspect of the hotel is the service. Upon checking in the Guest Services Manager, Anthony Vetere provided us with an overview of the hotel and amenities. The cleaning staff were always going out of there way to say hello and the front desk were always very helpful and pleasant. Simply outstanding service!! I would highly recommend this hotel.
