“Nice visit Sept 26, 2006”
Reviewed 7 October 2006

We're seniors (81 & 76) travelling on our own, by car. Spent 3 nights at "Embassy Suites - Fallsview" Sept 26, 2006. Total US$200 / night incl free breakfast & $20 valet parking - a must. Hotel is ideally situated - if you pay for the more expensive rooms on the "falls" side. Definitely worth it. Spend much time sitting by solid wall of windows right over Canadian falls, with US falls beyond. Hotel in all respects is more than adaquate -but not classy. Rooms are from 10th to 42nd floor. spacious, well lit, good beds, linen, etc. Decorator was obviously color blind.

Seeing the sights: "Maid of the Mists" boat trip - a must. "Journey behind the Falls" interesting, OK. We didn't go up viewing tower ("Skylon", I think) - saw plenty from room, boat. Butterfly museum sounded like a real tourist trap but turned out to be fun, very interesting, well done and beautiful. all of these sights are along the Niagara river and serviced by the "People Mover" shuttle bus that runs on the Niagara Parkway.
The consierge at the hotel offers a great package: 5-1/2 hour bus tour including all of above attractions and passing many others - for C$125.00 each (maybe plus tax!). We found (in AAA book) a package for total C$41 each (US$37) the gave above attractions (no Skylon), "People Mover" all day, and the Inclined railway that went right from our hotel on the precipitous cliff down to the Parkway and bus stop. If we'd bought it from home from AAA it would heve been less! Highly recommend this since parking is impossible - nothing on the street, lots are distant and the cheap ones start at C$10.00.

Saw the IMAX - nice but not essential - US$12.50 each with free parking. Don't go for the food: not great & not cheap!

Niagara-on-the-Lake: Charming little town (a la Mendacino or New Hope in the past) half hour pretty ride down the river at Lake Ontario. Fun shops, pretty -not a must.

No customs hassle or delay coming or going. We carried passports - a must after 1/1/07. Never changed money - used VISA everywhere - including parking meters! US$ accepted everywhere.

In spite of "Tourist trap" atmosphere, definitely worth a visit. With stamina you can do the basics in one full day, liesurely in two.

Picture below was taken from our room. At lower right edge is Niagara Parkway (bus route).beyond it is a strip ark that runs for miles along river at level with top of falls. From falls for many miles (to left) the river has cuta deep canyon.
Funicular goes from hotel level (per street seen at lower left) to Parkway. Far falls are the US falls with US city of Niagara Falls beyond. . Aptly named Rainbow Bridge from US to Canada is off the picture to the left.

“The spectacular Niagara Falls”
Reviewed 15 August 2006

we had a day trip to Niagara from Toronto with Toronto Tours and we had an amazing time on this trip.
The trip took place on the 7th August and we were picked up from the Delta Chelsea hotel, the driver and guide who conducted the tour was Matt. It must be said that Matt was friendly, informative, his knowledge of Toronto and Niagara and everywhere inbetween was fantastic, he was always helpful and polite. I don’t think we could have hoped for a better driver or tour guide.
The trip took place on the 7th August and we were picked up from the Delta Chelsea hotel at 09:30 the trip took about one and three quarter hours but seemed to fly by as the driver kept up a constant narration of all the places of interest as we past them. We had a helicopter flight over the Falls, and were then taken to the whirlpool rapids viewpoint. After this we were dropped at the table rock observation point for about an hour or so to look at and photograph the Falls. We were then picked up again and taken to the Sheraton hotel for a suberb buffet lunch which, by the way, is absolutely first class.
After that the guide takes you to the "maid of the Mist" boat ride which is absolutely breath taking and for me the highlight of the trip. After this we went to Niagara on the lake, but only for about an hour or so.
We got dropped off at the hotel at about 19:30 and this trip has truly left happy memories that'll last a lifetime.

“be prepared and educated”
Reviewed 23 October 2004

reading all the complaints about taxes, parking fees, US/CAN currency issues-i think you just have to do your homework before you go and during your stay. i've been there many times and stayed at many hotels and learned as i went along. now with sites like this you can learn about these things in advance--like--

TAXES- yes there are a lot of them. but non canadians are eligible for a rebate on the 7% GST on accomodations and souvenir purchases of at least $50 CAN. save you receipts and redeem them at the duty free shops at the border or use the money to shop there.

PARKING FEES- more and more hotels are charging for parking( i don't like this either) because of two casino complexes and the falls themselves. some divulge this on their website, some do not. if they suprise you at check-in,tell them it wasn't listed anywhere-MAYBE they will waive or discount the fee. many side streets are now permit parking or metered 24/7 so street parking might cost you too.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE- right now the going rate through banks is about 25%. every hotel, restaurant, and store will gladly accept US $ .however they are not obligated to give you the fair rate. some may give you better than the going rate but many give you considerably less(this was common the last few years when rates were 40-50%) before a major purchase-i.e.hotel--know what the current bank rate is, and ask the establishment what their rate is if its less-exchange your money into CAN$ if its better , pay with US$

TELEVISIONS- many hotels do not have cable tv(yeah i know -you won't be in the room much) but if you plan a longer stay or want to utilize your jacuzzi, you won't find the hundred(s) of tv channels you are used to back home. some hotels i've been at have only the basic channels that their roof antenna picks up. others have avarious satellite packages ranging from 10 or 15 up to about 30 channels. even the four and five star hotels don't get many channels

these are just my observations from many trips there in the past 15 years.

“Fantastic city”

In Aug 2004 we stayed @ the Days Inn,by the falls,on Centre St,Niagara Falls. It was beautiful, having just been totally redone,& very convenient to everything. If you go get the great gorge adventure pass. This is run by the Niagara Parks & is well worth the cost. We had two teenagers with us & they stated the best experience was Maid-of-the-Mist & the Falls. Not shopping!! This is a excellent place to take your teens for a family vacation. You shld also visit,Nightmares Fear Factory. My husband was extremely frightened & this was one of the coolest places.
