La Toscana di Carlotta
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 30 September 2008

We stayed at La Toscana di Carlotta on a beautiful fall week end with two other couples. This is the best bed and breakfast I have had the pleasure to stay at! The location is fabulous, the freshly cooked breakfasts are wonderful but the very best part of the deal are the host and hostess, Cash and Carlotta. We are hoping to return for an "Italian Immersion Week-end."

My boyfriend and I stayed at this great B&B Sept. 12th to 14th.
Hosts Carlotta and Kash were so welcoming and friendly.
We have stayed in many B&B's in NOTL over the years and this is one of the best. The location is great... just a block down the street from the Prince of Wales Hotel. We stayed in the Medici room and loved it. It had a little hallway leading to the bedroom with lots of windows. The room also had it's own coffee pot for early risers which we are.. (breakfast starts at 8:30 am). They also had bathrobes available as well as a blow dryer. The bed was to die for comfortable. The host Carlotta is straight from Italy so she knows food... breakfasts started w/ a cappacino and from there a 4-course meal which was served to you on the front porch at your own little table for two. And Kash served up a great juice that he makes. We can't say enough about how great they were and the food as well. The house is close to everything, you walk one block and are at the main street. They also gave us coupons for wine tastings at a couple of the local wineries, and when we mentioned we were getting massages at the Oban Inn, they had $10 coupons to hand us as well. We were hesitant to book this place since there were no reviews at the time we booked, and I rely heavily on tripadviser when making reservations. But something told me to go ahead and I was glad. Turns out no reviews were due to they had just taken over this place a few months back and converted it from a rental "cottage" to a B&B. So book this place, you won't regret it.

My wife and I came across this beautiful Bed and Breakfast almost by accident as we planned a quick getaway to attend the Shaw Festival in the gorgeous and historic town of Niagra-on-the-Lake in Ontario, Canada. We followed the accommodations link on the festival website and found a B & B Concierge service. Our initial inquiry produced a reply, listing three properties within a 15 to 20 minute walking distance from the theatre district of town. Upon further inquiry, we were told of a B & B location just one block away from the main theatre, and thus our adventure with Carlotta and Kash began.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by our hostess who gave a gracious and enthusiastic welcome, Once parked, we were allowed to leave our car in the driveway for the duration of our visit, even after checking out. We were promptly escorted to our room, the "da Vinci" which was spacious, yet cozy and well appointed with a king-sized bed, a single twin, night tables, dresser and mirror, wall mounted flat-screen TV, all resting on the original wide-planked floor of this exquisite home built circa 1818. To round out the room, the ensuite was fresh and spotless, and we had access to a private porch overlooking the street.

The room was replete with fresh linens, a coffee brewing service with a variety of ground coffee flavours, books about Carlotta's native Tuscany, and information about dining in town. Authentic Tuscan chocolate was left on the pillow cases and unique goat's milk toileteries were made available in the ensuite. Upon leaving for our dinner and theatre experience, we were given a private access code for self-entrance at the end of our evening.

In the morning, we were greeted downstairs by Carlotta and escorted out to the front porch where our breakfast awaited. What a treat this meal was! We were served by Carlotta and her husband Kash, as well as her mother Shara who was visiting from Italy. Our hosts did their utmost to allow us to feel like members of their extended family, engaging us in meaningful conversation without being overly intrusive.

We enjoyed freshly brewed coffee, freshly squeezed fruit juice as well as a refreshing fruit cocktail. Then we proceeded to tuck into flavourful Tuscan fritattas and cured meats appointed with salad, fresh Italian cheeses and artisian rolls. Finally, when we didn't think we could eat another morsel, we were presented with a delicate slice of a tart apple torte, This breakfast turned out to be all we would need until dinner later that evening!

This quick little one-night getaway was transformed into a promise of a longer visit during the next festival season as it was worth every penny of the $175.00 Canadian we most gladly spent!

Cheers, B & D, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
