“Excellent bed, excellent breakfast”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

Most people rave (and rightly so) about the amazing gourmet breakfasts. Others may write about how fantastically comfortable and luxurious the beds are, along with the modern and very clean bathrooms. Some may be most impressed with the pool and gorgeous gardens where guests are invited to enjoy drinks and conversation. But as if all that weren't enough, the hosts go out of their way to make you feel that their home is yours during your stay. They were so welcoming and friendly that we immediately felt comfortable. They were full of information on the area. They never made us feel that we were intruding when we had questions or needed something. Their home strikes a perfect balance of beautifully decorated yet comfortable. Unlike many other B&Bs, they welcomed our 7 & 8 year old children and showed genuine interest and enthusiasm for their many questions and requests. I left feeling as though I had made new friends, and we are already thinking of when we can go again. I wish I could package this B&B experience for all the other locations we would like to visit.

Great food. Clean, quiet, comfortable rooms. Charming, attentive, but not intrusive hosts. Beautiful gardens. Swimming pool. Bicycling distance from Shaw festival, restaurants, wineries, etc. The list goes on ..... and very affordable.

This was a truly outstanding experience...everywhere is evidence of the hosts' genuine desire to provide the most pleasing and delightful B&B experience possible...others have raved about the breakfasts which are truly extraordinary, but what also makes them so special is the incredible attention to detail and genuine outpouring of care that shows in the 25 different cheeses with tutorial, some personally imported from the Netherlands, the breads from every good bakery within driving distance, the chutneys and jams all house-made and delicious...Brian really puts himself out to deliver an unforgettable experience...we liked it so much - we returned within the week! and were thrilled to find they could make room at their inn...there is no better place for you in NOTL - oh, did I mention how much fun it was to swim in the beautiful salt water pool!

Room Tip: Each of the rooms has its own charm...you'll enjoy the paintings that are the air conditioning u...

OH . . MY . .GOD --- WHAT A BREAKFAST!!!!
Breakfast at Rangers Retreat is simply an experience unto itself. Multple baskets with a variety of fresh breads, platters with all kinds on interesting cheeses, bowls & bowls of fruit, yogurt, granola. . . . AND THEN YOU GET THE MAIN COURSE! Nothing simple like pancakes and waffles, mind you --- but eggs benedict that was the most amazing I ever had; a 3-mushroom/cheese omelet that melted in your mouth and a fritatta what was just extraordinary!
The facilities are just beautiful: the rooms are beautifully decorated, beds are comfortable, evenings are quiet, and all the extras that you might accidentally forget to pack are considerately made available for you. The pool-side patio and surrounding gardens are a feast for the eyes and there are a variety of sitting areas to either have quiet time with your traveling companion or relax with new-found friends who are staying at the facility and obviously equally pleased with their choice of lodging.
And our Host Brian was nothing short of an absolute pleasure to be around -- he is a wealth of knowledge on the local vineyards and willing to offer any insight you might be looking for. He seemed to possess that perfect innate balance between making himself available for friendly chat and leaving you to be and relax. We genuinely enjoyed his company and he was a key ingredient to making our stay simply amazing.
Many, many thanks to you, Brian --- that you independently managed a fully-booked weekend of guests with staggeringly sumptuous meals all while maintaining a perfect gentlemanly and engaging disposition deserves nothing short of heartfelt commendation and gratitude. You are the best!!!

Room Tip: You won't go wrong with any of the rooms chosen/available --- all are uniquely beautiful, tastef...

Just came back from a long weekend spent at the Rangers Retreat and I will be honest I will never stay anywhere else again when visiting the Niagara on the Lake region again. We also shared this with everyone that we met over our daily travels of which many were very very envious based on their accommodations

It is not breakfast that Brian prepares for you, but a feast that literally fills the table so much that you are challenged to find a place for your incredible mug of coffee. From the first offerings of over a dozen cheeses from around the world, to the 8-10 fresh breads made daily and served warm, to the berries, homemade yogurt, jams, chutneys and of course road kill of fresh berries with fresh squeezed orange juice are but only the start. All you hear is the call from the kitchen to save room for the actual breakfast that is still coming ! This of course can range from his locally organic sourced products that he uses in Eggs Benedict, Fresh Mushroom Omelet to the French Omelet style Frittata he served to us. No one was pushed to finish up and get out so we lounged and grazed our way through his delectable offerings over a couple of hours sharing stories with new found friends

Our Twins room was perfect for girls weekend trip. Huge down comforters, our own balcony, A/C control, great modern Euro style bathroom and of course lets not forget the tables outside in the gardens. This was the gathering point for everyone at the end of their day where the bottles of wine were plunked down on the table and the experiences from that days visits to wineries, the theatre or simply lounging by the pool outside were shared, And of course, Brian again arrived with morsels of cheese and snacks to fuel our conversations until the late hours providing suggestions for the following day based on what we enjoyed.

You know a host is special when he offers to take you to the unique wineries that you should not miss and then drops you off at the theatre so you are not late. For those who are like me, it is challenging to be away from your pet for several days, and little Sarah (his Scottie) was always coming by and offering up a little lick for a pat or snack and filled the void

It is a testament to how special a place is when many of the couples were repeat guests, and the new ones were booking second weekends for the entire house later this fall. I can hardly wait to return with my husband for the next visit with Brian and hopefully Jan

Not only is the property GORGEOUS, but the breakfast went above and beyond - focusing on FRESH and healthy the cheese selection had at least 16 different types of cheese (both local and from across the world), fresh fruit, homemade jams and fresh local produce the eggs benedict was prepared PERFECLTY and the holindase sauce from scratch. A retired european chef who lived in the netherlands for 20-odd years runs the B+B and is very friendly. Lots of space if you needed it and the conversation at breakfast was outstanding to boot! The rooms are modern with a hint of vintage appeal, a large deck to relax on, a pool (and he has swim suits if you forgot yours). Also PET FRIENDLY which was a huge plus and his little scottie Sara was adorable and friendly too. The funishings come with their own stories and character too. Can`t wait to find time to go again!

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing!

Stayed here on my first visit to NOTL -- lucky me, I'll never stay anywhere else. Down-filled luxury in the bedroom, a most tasty and substantial "Dutch" breakfast, worth the trip all by itself. Start with 15 cheeses, five or six breads, great coffee, yoghurt, fruit -- did I mention the hot breakfast prepared by Brian, you host and chef, I'll stop now I'm feeling hungry...
