my complaint was that we did not have a dresser for clothes in the room,we did have a desk however which could have been replaced with a dresser, also there was a fixed glass panel on the bathtub which was difficult to reach the taps unless standing in the tub, also the drain would not stay open so it would not empty easily. We have stayed at this hotel before in the main building, however this time we were in the Oban House which is much older. We would go again but prefer the main building as it was rebuilt a few years ago after a fire.

The inn itself is nice and clean with a lovely restaurant. Perhaps breakfast will be wonderful. We are very sad about our room, which is all dark brown and beige. There is not one spot of color in the room. Even the photographs are sepia toned. With only one small window there is little light to cheer the room up. Paying almost $300 a night, we had expected something a lot more welcoming. We are here for three nights, which I regret. Staying in this bleak, dadk room is depressing, very depressing.

It figures that our 3rd stay at the Oban, and the one we paid the most for, would be the one we enjoyed the least. Our previous stays have been in shoulder and off season, where the attention to detail, friendliness of the staff, location and ammenities have left us with high expectations. A visit to NOTL during the summer is a different experience altogether due to the large number of tourists, hence the advantage of staying at the Oban Inn. It definitely has a retreat feel, with the pool area and wonderfully maintained gardens providing a great escape. We stayed in a deluxe king (#7) in the main Inn which was a corner unit with 2 windows. One of the first things we noted was that the housekeeping was not up to par. Dusty, dirty baseboards, windows and sills full of cobwebs and fruit flies, poorly operating toilet, and the bathroom floor not cleaned properly. (Definitely not what we had experienced on previous visits). The noise level from the room above was an issue in the evening and at 6:30am when the people started packing up for the day... lots of thumping and the rolling of luggage on the wood floor became our alarm clock. When we went down to the dining room for breakfast we were told to sit anywhere we wanted. There were 3 staff working, and we could see 5 dirty tables. Since we preferred to sit by the window, we told them we would wait until they could clear a table for us. This seemed to be a real issue for them! We were ignored for a bit, and while we waited in the bar area, other couples came in, were seated and given coffee before any attempt was made to change the linen on the table we wanted. During the breakfast service we had to ask for cutlery, jam, and more coffee which was awkward as no one would make eye contact with us. Previously, we were offered yogurt and a whole basket of assorted breads and this time we were given a choice between toast or a bagel and no yogurt. Despite this, there was plenty of food for the 2 of us, and it is a vast improvement over the buffet breakfast that was offered in the bar area during our first stay 3 years ago. Lastly, it would have been a nice touch to get some verbal recognition that we were 3rd time returning guests, (when making the reservation by phone, checking in, or checking out). Even when I called Allison by name (I believe she is the assistant manager) when we were checking out, she made no reference to the fact, or ask us how our stay had been. This was after she had left a personally signed note and small "welcome back gift" in our room, so we thought she might remember the name! Small things maybe, but it what keeps us from rating the hotel as excellent for this stay. The fact that you have to go to the bar to ask for ice, that there is only one elevator in the main building, and there is no one to help you with your luggage (especially up the steps of the main entrance ..Note: there is better access from the parking lot to the lobby through the restaurant entrance), was not an issue for us, as it has been for previous reviewers. It is all part of the boutique hotel experience. This time we felt some of the basics were lacking, hence these comments. We love the location, the size of the Inn, the comfy beds, linens and robes, the turndown service, and would return to the Oban in the future, but will save our visit for the off season when we can stay for twice as long for the same amount, and the staff have time for more personalized service.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the 3rd floor of the main inn if possible, to avoid noise from the wood floors abov...

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by name and welcomed back after a 25 year hiatus. The hotel congratulated us on our anniversary . We stayed in room 318, a cozy queen room with a balcony : a summer delight . The 'new' Oban offers spa , pool, hot spring pool and a workout facility . The on-site restaurant appeared to have a delightful menu and breakfast was complimentary . Our morning exercise routine ran late BUT a lovely server ZOE made sure we had our pot of coffee for the room . The grounds abound with flowers and is second to no botanical garden ! With turndown service a rose graced our pillows .....beautiful . The Inn is 5 minutes from a multitude of boutiques, cafés, wine shops and the Shaw theaters . Cooler weather visitors would love room 314 ......

Room Tip: Room 314 huge king facing Lake Ontario/ niagara river on golf course Huge sitting area Fireplace...

It was the morning of July 21st when we were really looking forward to breakfast but unfortunately when our three-tier tray arrived, we could not get past the slices of cantaloupe and honeydew. They were clearly fermented and bad. The cold cuts of sliced chicken were also off. Simply unacceptable!! I would not give it even one star...it spoiled our holiday. This is a badly managed place with very sombre dining room and reception desk staff....when notified of the problem, there was not even an apology as if they were numb to complaints!

My husband and I have been going to NOTL for over 30 years and have stayed in a variety of accommodations. This year, we decided to try the Oban. We stayed in Room 303 from July 8 to 11. The room has much to recommend it: a comfortable King bed, lots of light through the many windows, shutters for privacy, a private patio (where we had a picnic lunch one day) next to a Koi pond, a glimpse of the lake over the cedar hedge across the street, lots of storage space in many small drawers, two chairs for lounging, a desk and a huge bathroom with a soaker tub. As for the hotel itself, we were surprised that we weren't offered assistance with our luggage when we arrived, and the continental breakfast (as some others have commented) was eccentric and somewhat meagre, with an offering of smoked fish (not to everyone's taste), cold cuts, one boiled egg between the two of us, a little bit of fruit and a couple of pastries. No cereal, but toast and yogurt were on offer. We found the staff overall to be not terribly friendly, but helpful. There is a really nice outdoor lap pool with a waterfall feature and truly gorgeous gardens. It is in a quiet location in a neighbourhood. A couple of issues for us: the built-in metal door stops in the bathroom are not easily seen (blending in with the tile), and I stubbed my toe badly, and it was very difficult to regulate the temperature in the shower, alternating between scalding (dangerously so), icy, or off. There was no ice machine for drinks or chilling wine; it is only available through guest services (and our experience was that after the ice melted, there was debris in the bucket, suggesting that it wasn't clean). All that said, we would return, and would seek out room 303 specifically. The location and the pool are worth it, and the private patio was lovely.
