We ate here twice (June 2011) for the simple reason that itx was well served, well laid out, and great food! Check it out.

“What is Stilton?”
Reviewed 3 August 2010

Our visit to the Moffat Pub (also signposted as the Horse and Groom - or something like that) was as least a cool reprieve from the heat of Queen Street. The atmosphere is fine, kind of pubby and cosy. Things began to go wrong, well, pretty much straight away. I tried to order a white wine sprizzer and the server didn't know what I was talking about. Well, OK, maybe not everyone drinks sprizzers but Niagara-On-The-Lake is a fairly international destination. Then I tried ordering a glas of Cabernet Sauvignon and the poor server didn't even know what that was. (This is wine country after all. Go figure).
To eat we ordered the shared platter of 'Ploughman's Lunch', made from 'locally sourced meats and cheeses'. When it arrived it consisted of: two types of Stilton, an unidentified hard cheese, some bought-in pickles, stuffed olives and pickled peppers, a pile of shaved pale meat which was probably chicken (the loaf kind that's cheap at Safeway) and a pile of pale pink ham-like meat (ditto). If there was anything 'local' about this fare it was not pointed out and frankly I wouldn't have believed them anyway.
This was clarified by a question from the next table to their server: "What is Stilton?" Their server didn't know so asked another, the answer being, "I think it's a kind of cheese."
Of course, not everyone is going to know everything about all kinds of food and drink, but at least, please, train your servers to know about what you sell.
