The Butler House Historic Bed and Breakfast
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 August 2014

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a fabulous two night stay at The Butler House the weekend of July 26/27. It was our first experience at a B&B, and we could not have been more impressed! The house itself is in a perfect location- on a quiet, pretty street but within walking distance to local attractions.

We arrived Friday evening and were warmly welcomed by our hosts John and Stephen. The house is so charming- and the decor exquisite. We stayed in the Black and White room which was cozy and spacious. It was beautifully decorated- attention to detail was amazing! It was the perfect combination of modern luxury with an elegant, antique feel. I was blown away by how immaculately clean and pristine everything was!!. The private bathroom just outside our bedroom was stunning- fluffy white towels and bathrobes, luxurious toiletries and a huge soaker tub left me feeling so pampered!

The reviews are true- Breakfast was absolutely phenomenal!!! John is an amazing chef- his delicious four course meal combined with Stephen's gorgeous table setting (truly stunning) provided us with a real gourmet experience. Not to mention we were full till dinner!

Overall, I cannot speak highly enough about our stay at The Butler House. I can't imagine anyone more well-suited to run a B&B than our hosts John and Stephen! They love what they do and it really shows. The only downside was having to check out on sun to go back to reality :(

Thank you soo much John and Stephen, for a fabulous stay!

We can't wait to return!

We stayed at this B&B on the weekend of July 26/27. The rooms are colour themed and decorated in a classy, tasteful manner. We stayed in the Green room upstairs, which was very spacious and comfortable. The rooms all look newly renovated in a manner that preserves the heritage feel of this historic home (but without "feeling old"). At the back of the B&B there is a pleasant deck and lawn/garden. Inside there is a rustic living room with fireplace, which would be perfect setting to play a boardgame, do a crossword or chat over drinks on a rainy or cold day. Breakfast is served at 9am in the dining room adjoining the deck (though tea, coffee and muffins - delicious home made muffins - are made available at 7:30 for those who rise earlier than us). Stephen and John are exceptionally warm and helpful hosts, who strike the right balance between being friendly and too friendly. Their breakfast was a highlight of our weekend getaway, being a fantastic three courses. My girlfriend remarked after that it was one of the best breakfasts she has ever had. All in all this is a very charming and comfortable B&B with two friendly and helpful hosts. I would highly recommend staying here.

I can't stop talking about and telling everyone about our 3 nights at the Butler House in July! John & Stephen have exquisitely restored this beautiful home within walking distance of shops and restaurants. All 3 bedrooms are beautifully decorated with the perfect combination of modern amenities and antiques. We stayed in the upstairs green room which we liked because of its private location beside a small sitting area and its en suite bathroom. The cozy livingroom offered a perfect spot to sit and read or chat. Morning coffee could be had in the livingroom or on the covered deck by the garden. But the diningroom was where the most fabulous 3-course freshly-made breakfasts were served on a different place setting of china, silverware, and glassware each day. However, what brought it all together was the warmth and welcoming atmosphere created by John and Stephen. This is a gem not to be missed!!! Barbara & David

Room Tip: All three are good choices

I stayed at The Butler House July 6th though 8th , 2014
Very easy to locate when entering Niagara on the Lake and within walking distance to fine restaurants and local attractions.
From parking the car to being welcomed by hosts John and Stephen the stay was wonderful.
My room was The Blue Room, decorated exquisitely with all the amenities of a luxury hotel.
Breakfast, from the table setting to the gourmet repast, was more than expected. John's culinary delights together with Stephen's table settings and service made breakfast 'a happening'
A special place indeed!!

Room Tip: the Blue Room is on the main floor but very private

On a recent two night getaway to Niagara on the Lake, we took a risk and tried a new B&B, The Butler House. Something new is always a bit of a gamble so we were very pleasantly surprised by what we found.
Two very genial hosts, John and Stephen, a beautiful, historic home, tastefully decorated amidst a setting of tranquil, well maintained gardens, a pleasant walk to the theatres, restaurants and the main street.
While new to the B&B business, the hosts are well experienced in the art of entertaining and provide all the little touches and more to make it a most relaxing, comfortable and peaceful stay.
The breakfasts are very special and in our case precluded the need to stop for lunch.
The Butler House is very special and we know we have found a new Niagara on the Lake home.

My partner and I have just returned from an absolutely wonderful stay at the Butler House. We stayed in the Black and White room which was just beautiful. John and Stephen made our experience so special; they could not have given us a warmer welcome and instantly made us feel at home. The atmosphere in the B&B was warm, relaxed, and fun and added so much to our stay. They have refurbished the Butler's House to such a high standard I cannot imagine staying in a B&B as nice ever again. Breakfast was outstanding, three courses of delicious freshly sourced and cooked ingredients which set us up for the day perfectly. John and Stephen have really gone the extra mile to create a warm, welcoming, and beautiful B&B. The attention to detail was incredible, down to leaving postcards with stamps already attached (for locations around the world) in the bedroom. Our only regret was that we could only stay for one night. I would highly recommend anyone going to Niagara-on-the-Lake to stay at the Butler's House. With it's perfect location, incredible owners, and delicious food I expect it will become Niagara-on-the-Lake's most sought after B&B very, very soon.

Room Tip: John and Steohen kindly showed us around the B&B when we first arrived as no other guests were t...

This is a terrific B&B. Recently redone very tastefully. Very comfortable and restful. Nice antiques and accessory touches everywhere. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice and everything worked. Great shower. The breakfasts are a real highlight. John, one of the owners, is a great cook and each breakfast (4 mornings) was a 3 course delight, and different every day. The china changed every day with the meal as well. Real gourmet experience. And it is all done with class, but also casually. Location is within walking distance of the theaters and many restaurants. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: One room on ground floor. Two upstairs.
