Our return to the Old Bank House in 2006 after a 13 year hiatus was very disappointing. We stayed there several times from 1989 to 1993, and have found that changes in ownership directly impact the quality of the experience. The breakfast served was nondescript and bland compared to the French cuisine we experienced previously at the Bank House, and was served at tables that wobble and tilt. Where once we were able to talk with the owners about local areas of interest, the current Innkeepers were nowhere to be found when we needed assistance. We paid their premium price for a room with a view of their rear parking lot, there was no air circulation in the room, no air conditioning was in place, the beds were very uncomfortable and the room was rather worn and in need of repair. We have stayed at numerous B&B's along the Atlantic coast and Canada for the past 20 years, some outstanding, some excellent, some good , but only one or two that were mediocre. The Old Bank House rates at the mediocre level. We will not return.

The Old Bank House is conveniently located two blocks off the shopping venue in Lake of Niagara, and nestled right on the lake. This B&B is decorated with remarkable European and Asian charm. The owners have incorporated an incredible number of interesting souveniers from their many, worldly travels. The sitting room is a must-see! This isn't your typical "country-style" B&B decorated with lace and ruffles.

Upon our arrival, the owners gave us a tour of the B&B, directed us to our room, and quickly inquired about our beverage preferences for breakfast (coffee, specific teas, etc.). They were also inquisitive about any food allergies that either of us might have to ensure safe dining pleasure.

We stayed in the Pearl Room. It was beautifully decorated in green European toille and finely appointed antique furniture. The double French doors allowed us to experience the cool Canadian air throughout our entire visit. The king-size bed was incredibly comfortable. Our private, updated bathroom was spacious, and spic-and-span clean.

While breakfast was served at nine in the morning, it was beyond worth the wait! The call to breakfast was the intriguing sound of contemporary jazz being played in the kitchen. If you don't plan to stay for breakfast, you are truly missing an incredible epicurian experience! Warm fruit compotes, eggs Benedict, freshly blended juices, and a dark roasted coffee was served our first morning. During the rest of our stay, breakfasts included fresh omelettes, blueberry pancakes, and more!

The service at the Old Bank House was superb! The rooms were cleaned daily, and plenty of fresh towels always awaited us. The breakfast staff was quick, attentive, and polite. They were friendly and helpful with our every request. The owners were quick to make suggestions and reservations for dinner, provide help in scheduling wine tours, and direct us wherever we were going.

We intend to make The Old Bank House an annual (or bi-annual) trip! I consider this trip one of my favorites and a must for anyone interested in a high-end B&B experience with European charm!

Joy

P.S. For those of you that might miss breakfast, Lake of Niagara is well-known for spectacular, fresh pastries and baked goods! If you must miss breakfast, the owners provide you with a wonderful "to-go" breakfast that includes bakery-purchased pastries, fresh fruit, and your choice of beverages! While it is no replacement for the fine breakfast served at The Old Bank House, it is a savory second option!

The house is nicely situated on a park overlooking the lake. Very nice to look at, as was our room. The atached bath seemed to be newly renovated. The property is well maintained.

Upon checking in at about 5:00 p.m., our host advised us that breakfast the next day would be served at 9:00 a.m. We told the host that, as we were traveling hundreds of miles again the next day, breakfast at such a late hour was not possible. At other B & Bs on this same trip, breakfast was usually 7:00 to 10:00, or 7:30 to 9:30, or similar.

Rather than deducting the price of the two breakfasts, the host promised breafast to take with. That turned out to be supermarket muffins in a plastic pack, coffee, granola bars, and fruit. The experience was very unsatisfactory and unplesant, and motivated us to skip Niagara-on-the-Lake entirely on our return trip.

My wife and I have stayed in various bed and breakfasts
, country inns and hotels in Niagara on the Lake over the years while visiting the Shaw festival. Without doubt
The Old Bank House is the most exquisite property
overlooking the lake, two blocks from the town centre,
theatres, restaurants as well as the historic golf
course.

This historic building has been beautifully restored
recently with
great attention to detail. It is delightfully upbeat with an
eclectic collection of objects from all over the world
thus giving the ambient feeling of a boutique inn with
English, French and Italian antiques.

Rooms are are beautifully decorated, extremely clean and
very peaceful and relaxing. The patio overlooking the lake
is reminiscent of the great Italian lakes with sun drenched
spaces where one can peacefully sip on a glass of wine
while reading a good book or just enjoying the
people watching experience alla piazza style.

Breakfasts are hearty and delectable and are served in
fabulous settings.Weather permitting they are also served on the wonderful patio overlooking the lake.
We were fortunate this year to visit in August and
had breakfast, which among other delicacies included the freshest fruit from the local farms, outside every day.

This was an exceptional stay and we look forward to
our return in 2006.It is important to book early though as this gem provides an excellent value for
the money and has many repeat guests.

We just returned from a one night stay at The Old Bank House and wish we could've stayed longer. We were lucky enough to call when there had been a cancellation and got in for one night. Christian welcomed us at the door and gave us a very nice tour of this beautiful bed and breakfast. What my husband and I couldn't get over was how QUIET it was at this location. Right across the street from a park that borders the lake, and there was no street noise, barely any noise anywhere, yet we knew that every room was booked. Our room was very comfortable, great balcony looking out onto the lake. The bed was so comfortable that we both remarked on how nice it was to wake up without back pain as we both do in many hotels. The other thing that we were very pleased with was the fact that it was SPOTLESS! I am very picky about cleanliness, and when we walked into our bathroom, my husband smiled at me and said, "Clean enough for you?" Everything sparkled! Not even one water drop on the fixtures! Incredible. We did not have dinner here because we arrived too late, but it smelled and looked wonderful. We did have breakfast, though, and it was very good - my husband just kept on talking about how good it was all day. It is also a very short walk to all the shopping. The location is perfect, the rooms are quiet, comfortable, and charming, and the host makes you feel incredibly welcome. Everything positive that everyone says in these reviews is true! We cannot wait to go back.

My husband and I stayed at the Old Bank House for 2 nights in June. We had never stayed at a B&B before but we were delighted with this place! The inn is located at the foot of King Street and directly in front of the best view of the park and the Niagara River. The room we stayed in was very quaint and had a lovely french balcony to let in the summer air. Breakfast in the morning was great with fresh fruit and yougurt and one of the best omlettes I have ever had. The dining room is set up so that you can sit by yourselves while at the same time you are able to converse with your neighbours if you wish. We chose to stay for dinner and we were very glad we did. Wonderfully fresh and creative dishes by chef Christian far surpassed any overpriced meal that I have had at the very pricey hotels in NOL. My husband and I were so taken with this place that we are returning this summer with my parents.

We spent a beautiful long weekend at the Old Bank House in May. The Inn is nice, and our room was fine, but the location was spectacular. Right on the lake. Also, easy walk to the downtown area. They recently started offering dinner and we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. Too bad, because the chef really tried. Otherwise, the Inn was nice and I would gladly stay there again.
