A interesting small fort located in the middle of the Niagara Golf course at the confluance of Lake Ontario and the Niagara River with a a great view of Ft.Niagara across the river in the USA.A destination for lovely walk along the waterfront winter or summer.

To get there you walk through a golf course and then through a field, so if its wet outside wear appropriate shoes. The place is locked up tight but there are some info boards outside. Mildly interesting.

We found the fort by taking a walking tour of N-O-T-L. It is neglected as the other reviewer mentioned but the message boards were quite interesting and unlike the notice board are quite legible, It does provide a good view of the lake.

As mentioned you have to walk through the golf course and my comment to my husband was if this was in the U.S. it would be taken care of with pride. First off I noticed that the board out front is hard to read because it has not been maintained. I also chuckled at the description "star earthworks" which if my husband has not been a history buff I would not have understood. It refers to the star shaped mote around the building. It would have been appropriate to explain that and show a drawing of it on the board.

As you enter the grounds you can see it is not maintained and you cannot enter the actual building. Yes, the tunnel which is a bit of a stretch because you enter the tunnel and come to a wall just inside has graffiti which is a shame.

Takes a bit to find the path through the golf course, but worth it. Hardly visitied, so generally you'll be the only person there. Peaceful and one tunnel has graffiti carved into it dating back to 1880. Really enjoyed it.
