We've just returned from a fabulous stay at this most excellent inn for an overnight getaway. Having been there a couple of times before for a superb dinner, we decided to take advantage of a promotion they offered and stay overnight to experience the rest of their hospitality. Well, it did not disappoint! The check-in was smooth and genuinely welcoming(rare in tourist areas), our room was a beautiful mix of contemporary high quality furnishings with the historic home itself expertly renovated for the inn. Great attention to detail is evident in the amenities: top quality bedding, robes, toiletries, towels and even current hard cover novels to read! The Richardson Room, where we stayed, had a grand gas fireplace(with original mantel), wide screen TV above, a Juliet balcony overlooking the golf course and shoreline. A glass-walled shower offered your choice of hand-held/regular shower head or the currently popular rain shower type. The bed was ultra comfortable with a feather bed under luxury cotton sheets, among the many items that are also for sale, as a memento of a wonderful stay there.
Dinner was exquisite: a butternut squash veloute "amuse bouche" to start; hand rolled gnocchi in a pool of butternut squash cream with toasted pine nuts, squash dice, sauteed spinach and fried sage leaf garnish. My main course choice was pan fried halibut(tender center, crispy crust), swiss chard, honeyed enoki mushrooms, roasted fennel and fingerling potatoes with a red wine reduction drizzle--divine!! Lighting was low and cozy, music at just the right volume, service was very good with well-informed servers who genuinely have an interest in food preparation and hospitality.
The next morning we had an equally superb breakfast served in the enclosed terrace off the lounge area. A bright airy decor of white, cream and verdigris iron furniture with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the main street into town. There was a raging snowstorm outside creating a winter wonderland scene from this cozy, warm verandah style room. We plan to return often for breakfast, lunch or dinner to further enjoy this beautiful atmosphere, since we luckily live about 20 minutes away.
In closing, do not pass up the opportunity to enjoy this establishment, even for a quick bite sometime in their lounge/bar area.
