Our trip to Niagra on The Lake and our stay at Davy House was a gift from our son and daughter in law. The B&B they chose for us was Davy House, and I don't know if it was by design or a happy coincidence. It is located in the historic district of NOTL within a short walk of the theater and shopping district. Jeff and Flo are the delightful hosts of this Historic Inn and we were totally blown away by the entire experience!
The attention to detail borders on obsessive, because everywhere you look there's new detail you missed the first time. The restoration of the house is impeccably done and incorporates all the details of the mid 1800's with all the modern conveniences.
Down stairs are the common areas consisting of a very warm parlour where you can have coffee at any time and a dining room with the original windows looking out over the back yard. There is a good selection of DVD's that you can take to your room in the unlikely event that you run out of things to do.
Our room was number 1842 at the top of the stairs. It incorporates a full bath with a full glassed in shower and a neat porcelain sink on an antique washstand. The pine floors in the bedroom have been restored using a special glossy epoxy finish and it just glows.
The queen sized bed has a canopy frame and was very comfortable with a variety of throw pillows and a selection of soft or firm sleeping pillows. The lace trimmed sheets are a nice touch with a lovely comforter for the chillier evenings.
The is an antique washtub stand at the foot of the bed for whatever you feel compelled to put on it. There are also two comfy old fashioned upholstered wing chairs with a small table between them. On this table is an ample supply of weurther candies which I completely cleaned out (sorry about that Jeff but they are my only candy fetish).
For those that wish, there is a fan in the hall that that can be used if you are so inclined, and also a supply of slippers you can use when going down to the hot tub in the provided Terry and Satin bathrobes.
The back yard has a well thought out theme of Koi pond and lush treed vegetation with a putting green included. A covered swing at the rear of the property provides some privacy for those who want it. The hot tub in this area is kept at 108 degrees which was perfect for us. There are plenty of yard chairs for you to sit and relax in and a wonderful and calming place to share a bottle of wine or have your morning tea or coffee.
The cobbled, well manicured parking area at the front of the property is a delight and there is a smoking area here for us puffers.
The real surprise was the welcoming nature of Jeff and Flo and the epicurean delight of the gourmet breakfasts they serve punctually at 9am. This is one meal you don't want to miss believe me!
We felt right at home shortly after our arrival due, no doubt to the warm and welcoming nature of Flo and Jeff. The nice thing is that they make themselves available to their guests 24 hours a day if you do have any problems. We couldn't find any flaws in the service and accommodations and I believe they have raised the bar on the standards of B&B's.
Well done you two and thank you for the wonderful experience!
Glen and Barbara Latour.
