We had a wonderful stay at Simcoe Manor! Spectacular breakfasts that accommodated dietary needs; charming rooms, and that great deck on which to relax in between shows at the Shaw Festival! John is a gracious host who knows all the plays, restaurants and wineries intimately, and happily dispenses assistance and information. We couldn't recommend it more highly.

Room Tip: Pick any room - all great!

We returned to the Mauve Suite at Simcoe Manor in Niagara-on-the-Lake for Victoria Day weekend. By now, it feels like our home away from home. The room is spacious and has a living room area and windows on three sides. The weather was beautiful and we sat outside on the porch overlooking the extensive and well-kept garden.

We also took a carriage ride around the town which took us by our bed and breakfast. We were able to walk to all three Shaw Festival theatres from Simcoe Manor. The plays, in our opinion, were well worth seeing and the stage scenery was spectacular. We also walked to all of the unique shops on Queen Street.

John and Alison were gracious hosts who went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable. John is very knowledgeable about the plays at the theatres and the history and architecture of the town. He is always willing to suggest suitable restaurants to eat at and wineries to visit. For history buffs, John is a virtual War of 1812 encyclopedia.

We sincerely recommend this B&B for both first time and returning visitors to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

A nice place to stay when visiting NOTL. Innkeeper is very helpful and will book wine tours and restaurants as needed.
Steps to shopping and restaurants in town.

Our second trip to Simcoe Manor was even more wonderful than our first. Although we arrived a little behind schedule, John, the always gracious host. lined up several wonderful wine tasting experiences for us - including a private tasting at one of the areas oldest and most notable vineyards. With the cozy, in room fireplace and comfortable, spacious bed, the accomadations were the best we've ever experienced in a bed and breakfast type setting. The real treat of the trip was the fabulous breakfast, (German style apple pancakes with whipped cream). We are already planning another trip back - as we would to share this wonderful experience with other friends and members of our family

Room Tip: The Velvet room was very luxurious and large enough to accomadate a family

My mom and I have stayed at Simcoe Manor every summer for the past seven years (we already have our reservation for 2012). John has been marvelous every single year, giving us all sorts of details on the Shaw Festival season, recommending restaurants, and responding in detail to whatever questions we may have. We greatly look forward to seeing him each time we come to N-o-t-L.

We always have the Burgundy Suite, two rooms with connecting bathroom. It is truly luxurious and a huge treat. BTW, the location of Simcoe Manor is perfect -- the main street is barely a block away, but it's still quiet, also very beautiful (both the house and the landscaping surrounding it).

The breakfasts are heavenly -- there's no other word! -- and every morning offers possibilities for wonderful conversation. It's great to sit in that gorgeous dining room and compare notes with people from all over North America re: Shaw Festival plays just seen, restaurants frequented, etc.

I think anyone's stay at N-o-t-L would be much the poorer without a stay at Simcoe Manor!

My wife and i arrived at Simcoe around 7pm having driven almost 8 hours from New York, John greeted us with a smile and i think some relief, thinking we might not turn up. He then asked how many nights we where staying???????? I said "3 nights as agreed" He then stated he thought we where staying for 4 and said he would have to charge us the full price as opposed to the discouned price we had agreed on the phone. I did not argue with this, but was a little put off. The room i have to say was very nice. My wife wanted to have a bath that evening but as soon as she turned on the spa bath the notion was off her. VERY LOUD to say the least

As i was leaving early on the morning of checkout i paid my bill the evening before. John informed me he would not be there for brerakfast as he had to attend the hospitail. I did not actually realise thet there would be no breakfast. but that was the case. Not even the facility to get a cup of tea or coffe before we left. This i can understand, But i was charged for the breakfast for that morning and honestly would have expected that amount to have been deducted by John knowing there would be noone there to make brerakfast.

I personally would not stay there again

Room Tip: Take a spa bath during the day as there is plenty of noise

We sincerely regret the misunderstanding and circumstances leading to this less than satisfactory experience for our guest,When the booking was made by phone from Ireland ( about 2 months in advance) we understood the guest was unsure if he required 3 or 4 nights accommodation at our Inn.We were expecting a final confirmation with expected arrival time by email but received none .They were arriving through New York on a cruise ship and try as we may we were unable to make a contact. to clarify arrangements. On the day of arrival( Sept 10th.) the guest arrived several hours after our normal check in and never called in advance to advise their ETA.We questioned as the evening progressed.even if the guests would arrive that day.
When they arrived .we naturally inquired if the guests were staying 3 or 4 days...as we had held the room for all 4 nights to cover all options..During the high season our facility is booked fully most every night..We charge our fees on arrival not departure. We gave them an upgraded suite.

No issues were raised during the stay and we felt the guests were happy.
The night before their departure I had a medical emergency which resulted in our going to a specialist 1 hour away and then being rushed to a hospital 150KMs away at 4 AM. for an emergency operation to reattach my detached retina. We were unable to make alternative arrangements for breakfast at our Inn so we left notes advising guests who wished to eat alsewhere in town and that we would reimbuse them. These guests must have not seen the note and left before we returned to the Manor following the operation
Nearly two months have passed .We have heard nothing directly from these guests since their departure..So having received no complaint or concern; the posting of this negetive review in November came as a complete surprise..Even though we do not normally separate breakfast expenses from our nightly charges given a request we would gladly have adjusted their bill for the missed breakfast and credited their account ccordingly;but we have received no such request. nor complaint of any form during or after their stay.
We bend over backwards to have our guests leave Simcoe Manor in a happier state then they arrive and have a reputation for 5 star service. We sincerely regret the series of events mostly unforeseen leading to a less than satisfactory experience and if contacted by these guests would still be pleased to take remediative measures.
