“Great Retreat!”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights and had a wonderful time. We have made NOTL an annual get together when I am back south for holidays. We found that Schoolmaster's House is within an easy walk to all of the theatres and restaurants and shops, but far enough away to escape the bustle. We enjoyed the quiet gardens with the tranquil sound of flowing water. Both Diane and Allan were very helpful in making our stay great and offered excellent choices for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was both delicious and filling. I have allergies and Diane was mindful of them. Our room was the 2 bedroom and it was spacious and quiet. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast.

Room Tip: Book directly with the B&B.

We stayed at this B&B from July 11-14 and had a wonderful time. The B&B is very conveniently located on Mississauga Street, just 3 blocks from Queen Street (the main street in the historic district of Niagara on the Lake). The hosts, Alan and Diane, are very good natured and welcoming. They also have a tiny dog, Parker, who is part of the welcoming committee! We reserved the Garden Room, which is in the back of the house with its own private entrance. This was perfect for us as we like to get up early and ride our bikes at sunrise--- we were able to do this without disturbing anyone else in the house. The room is very clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom functional--- all exceeding our expectations! There is a flat screen TV in the room and wireless internet. The room has air-conditioning that can be controlled from a remote control--- all making our stay quite comfortable! The garden area in the back of the house is absolutely terrific--- a wonderful place to sit and relax or read, listen to the fountain, enjoy the pond and admire the hard work it takes to keep the whole area looking so charming! Each morning, breakfast is served at 8:30am-- and each breakfast we had was excellent-- the three breakfasts we enjoyed were all different-- everything from hot croissants, muffins, eggs benedict, crème brulee French toast-- no matter what Diane had cooked, each breakfast was delicious! What is also nice about this B&B is that the hosts-- Alan and Diane-- are natives of the area and offer wonderful perspectives on the history and had great recommendations for us on where to have dinner, which wineries are worth touring/tasting, etc. This was our 12th time at Niagara on the Lake, but the first at this B&B--- the other 2 we have stayed at previously are no longer operating as B&B's. We already booked the Garden Room for next July for our 13th visit to this lovely, charming and quaint Ontario town! OH-- another plus--- there is off-street parking, which is key as parking can be challenging being so close to Queen Street -- there are spaces available for guests off of Gage Street. We have a large pick-up truck and we had no problem parking at The Schoolmaster's House B&B! We had a wonderful time and look forward to staying with Alan & Diane again next year at their amazing, historical B&B!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Garden Room because of the private entrance-- it was easy for us to come & go wit...

My mother and I recently stayed at the Schoolmaster's House at NOTL to take in some plays, shop and tour wineries. Diane and Alan were charming hosts providing delicious breakfasts and lots of good suggestions on what to see and where to eat. The house is very quaint with lovely rooms including fireplaces and beautiful landscaped gardens and grounds. It was close to downtown which made going to plays and eating at different suggested restaurants very convenient. We would definitely return for another stay!

It was great to meet you and your Mom. Glad you enjoyed your room and your stay with us.
Our garden now is even more spectacular. It has been very warm outside and to sit in the Pergola by the Koi pond has been great as it is a cool and relaxing spot.
Glad to hear you will be coming back to stay with us again.
Thanks for the excellent review. We look forward to your return.

We stayed the weekend of June 27-29, 2014. Schoolmaster's House is a lovely home, built in 1818 with all the original floors, fireplaces, and hardware. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and include a koi pond. Alan and Diane were great hosts with lots of information on what to do and where to eat during our stay. The breakfasts they served were delicious. And their little Maltese pup, Parker, was an adorable bonus.

This bed and breakfast was truly excellent. We were there only a few days, but we will return. The room was perfect and the breakfast was top notch. The owners went out of their way to welcome you not only to their home, but to the town. They were so helpful, by the end of the first day,
I felt as if we were old friends.

My husband and I stayed at Schoolmaster June 20 & 21. Diane and Alan could not have been more gracious. We were warmly welcomed to the B&B, shown our room, where to store our bikes, given suggestions for wine tours and dinner reservations booked for us. We were in the Garden Room which was perfect. Breakfasts were very good and a lot of fun as we enjoyed meeting and talking with the other guests. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at The Charles Inn and ended the evening sitting with Diane and Alan in their beautiful garden and sipping a very good glass of red wine.

All in all, a wonderful weekend, particularly thanks to Diane and Alan (and Parker!).

What great host's we had with Alan/Diane and their vast knowledge about the area. We visited many vineries nearby and of course the Falls. The. Falls are just a short drive from Schoolmasters. So loved our stay and will return soon for more.
