We went here on recommendations from Kellar House B&B and we were not disappointed. We loved the food. It was excellently pared with our wine. The service was excellent and our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. The location is perfect and atmosphere very romantic. Hope to return again.

The Charles Inn patio is an excellent location for a light summer meal- pretty setting, good service, fair prices, and, for those of us of "a certain age", just the right size portions. As a NOTL resident, I certainly recommend this location.

We've been coming to Niagara-on-the-Lake to celebrate our anniversary in recent years, but had never tried the Charles Inn Restaurant. This year we had dinner there with another couple, and liked it so well, we returned for lunch on the day we had to head back to the states. The atmosphere in the room was pleasant and relaxed, service was excellent at both meals, and we thought our food was outstanding. In particular, several of us who had the rich chocolate pate for dessert thought it was one of the best chocolate desserts we had ever had - and our friend who is a chocoholic and is very particular about any chocolate he tries, agreed. My entree of the crisp skin Atlantic salmon had so many interesting flavors on the dish, and they all went together to create a very pleasing meal. The caramalized cauliflower looked and tasted different but very good, the mushroom strudel was also good, as were the sauteed spinach and watercress. At both lunch and dinner hot, crusty rolls were brought out. For our lunch we had a delicious carrot and ginger soup and a caramelized onion, tomato and goat cheese puff pastry tart, alongwith a nice salad we shared. A reasonably priced lunch that was quite delicious and not over filling, and we enjoyed it sitting by a window looking out at the garden. We would highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return on our next annual visit from the states.

My wife and I visited the Charles restaurant in june mainly because of the good reviews that we read. Our first impressions were of nicely cared for gardens and a pleasant outdoor patio. We were seated at a nice table for two but as we sat down, we bottomed out on the seat cushions ( we are not large people) and noticed another man who requested a change of chair. We had only a main course which was pan fried halibut with potatoes and fennel and one small stewed tomato which was of the type one would find in a can at the supermarket. The fish was about 2 inches square and dry inside. Two small potatoes, which were only slightly larger than the average grape grown in the area were strangely hollow in the middle. The fennel was about one mouthful and simply fried. If one looked hard one could see three small sprigs of fennel top which could hardly cover the surface area of one molar.About two tablespoons of what looked and tasted like chicken broth was poured on top of the dish at the table. The cost of this appetizer sized meal was $30. We did not chance dessert and left hungry. My recommendation is: walk through the gardens- it's free, then eat at the Epicurean.

Thank you for choosing The Charles Inn as your place to dine. We are sorry to hear that you found our outdoor seating to be uncomfortable, and that you found our menu to be too pricey with our portion sizes. We would like to assure you that all of our chef’s ingredients and food are fresh and made fresh to order. Though you did not have the experience you had hoped for we hope to see you again in the future
