Do not stay here, it is filthy and broken. The staff was unmotivated to say the least. The vertical blinds in one of the bedrooms was missing slats and they never repaired it even after we complained three times. For two mornings there was no sugar and the staff couldn't be bothered to get any. The floors had never been cleaned. Towels were half sized and very worn out. The beds sloped to the middle so unless you slept alone you were always falling into the middle of the bed. Finally the price is no better than many other sites in Ottawa. For a school that has an outstanding hospitality program this is a disgrace.

Booked 2 nights. After arriving the night I instantly contacted the booking agent to cancel the 2nd night. Fortunately I did get the refund. Have been to a college dorm but this one seems worn out badly. On arrival there was no clear sign indicating where to park my car. One thing this place has common with many Las Vegas casino hotels is to walk a long way from parking lot to the room. Room was barely furnished of course it was a student dorm. The window blinds in the room were virtually useless and the morning sun just shone through at 5:45 am. No WiFi available in room, only got wired internet which was useless for my iPad. I should have brought along my old travel wireless router which I always did in previous few years and as I expect WiFi should be standard for all accommodations nowadays. Breakfast was a bare basic continental, no more. Overall it was not a pleasant experience. No more college residence in the future. I rather pay a bit more to have better service and amenities.

Room Tip: Ask for room closer to elevator. Bring an eye cover. Bring a laptop and ethernet cable, no WiFi.

We stayed here during the Canada Day weekend 2012 because we could not find hotel space elsewhere in Ottawa for this very busy long weekend. If you are planning to visit here you should be aware in advance that this is a college dorm and not really a hotel. The facilities are spartan to say the least, although the two-room suite we had was adequate size-wise and the bathroom was OK. The hallways were bare tile floors and the hall walls were marked up and dirty. Large garbage containers were left outside the elevators and there was a strong smell at times.

Our suite had the same grubby bare tiles on the floor of the kitchenette and laminate in the bedrooms. The kitchenette contained a small table and two kitchen chairs, all of which were very grubby. The bedroom walls were relatively clean and the beds fairly comfortable. There a student desk and chair in each bedroom. The linen was mismatched and thin and the blanket (1 on each bed) was thin and had at least one hole. There was a small TV in each bedroom, but no alarm clock. The only lamp in one bedroom did not have a bulb in it and a call to the front desk resulted in nothing happening. There were large dust bunnies under each bed and in room corners/behind doors. The room had obviously not been vacuumed for a while!

The kitchen had no utensils, cutlery, plates, cups, or pots and pans. This fact should be pointed out in your advertising to avoid guests' disappointment. Bathroom had only a very narrow shower curtain which made it impossible not to get water on the floor. There were two small bars of soap and 2 tiny containers of shampoo for 3 people.

The first night it was quiet; however, the second night was very noisy until the early hours of the morning due to a large crowd having a BBQ on the grass outside.

Complimentary breakfast was available - toast and bagels, jams, cream cheese and margarine, coffee and juices, plastic cutlery and paper plates/cups only. The seating was very inadequate for the large numbers of guests trying to serve themselves at the same time and tables were not cleaned between guests.

On arrival there was a large garbage bin in front of the front entrance steps. It was jammed full and by that evening there was overflowing garbage on the ground around it. It was still like this when we left two days later.

I would like to comment that the staff we saw (two receptionists & one lady on our floor changing sheets) were friendly and pleasant. I noticed that this lady seemed to be on duty early in the morning and still working after 5 p.m.

I think one of the main problems is not enough housekeeping staff. Also, any advertising material should point out clearly that this is a dorm environment ONLY and therefore some hotel amenities such as kitchenware & cloths are not available and guests should bring their own.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on our experience with Algonquin College Residence.

Overall, it’s a nice stay with the money we paid. There are pros and cons I thought people should know.
Pros:
Privacy:Inside the room, there are 2 separate rooms both equipped with a double bed, TV, studying desk, internet and open closet. Outside the bedrooms, there is a kitchen with a microwave and big refrigerator, and a roomy bathroom. You definitely have your privacy which is the best feature of the room.
Convenience: If you prefer to cook, there are several kitchens you can use on each floor, or you can use their outdoor BBQ. There is a big 24-hour Loblaws nearby for you to shop. There are McDonald’s, Subway, and Tim Hortons in walking distance. There is a shopping mall with restaurants just across the residence.
Flexibility: You can have an early check-in or late check-out. You can do sports on the campus, like basketball, beach volleyball, etc., or simply just a walk.
Cons:
Keep in mind and don’t expect anything better than a hotel. The bed might be squeaky and the linens are cheap. There is also no hair dryer or enough shampoo or conditioner to use. In addition, there is no Wi-Fi in the residence so you can’t use your I-Pad or I-Pod touch if they’re not 3G. Also, it is noisy if your room is close to the stairs, (as people will be opening and closing the door).
In conclusion, I will be back in the summer when other hotels’ price is ridiculously high.

Well, this is the place to stay for baseball teams, or if you are attending a swim meet or other athletic event at the college. If you have never been to university then be warned that you are not getting a two room suite like what you might expect at Quality Suites or other chain hotel. We stayed here because my wife was attending a conference and we wanted to make sure she had every opportunity to network...

The rooms were difficult to function in...I know everyone says that they never spend time in the room - or they only sleep there...but really folks....I am a seasoned traveller and I know how important a comfortable room is. These dorm rooms are not set up for comfort - they are set up to house two students who sit at a desk in the bedroom or perhaps sit on a cushion steel chair at the kitchen table to eat their Kraft dinner.

Mattresses were very thin, pillows thinner, missing slates on vertical blinds mean that the room was fairly well illuminated even at 2am.

Housekeeping came both days at 5pm and was ineffective.

This place needs professional management - it seemed to be run by students.

I know there is a compelling arguement for ignore the faults because of the price - and if you can you should...but if you want to sleep on a decent bed - not even a heavenly bed - with a decent pillow in a dark room then you need to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: if you must stay here try to get a room overlooking the grassed common area at the rear - the buses...

Great location near shopping, restaurants, with easy access to the highway. The rooms were very big (they are 2-bedroom apartments with eat-in kitchen), and quiet. Free parking, internet (wired only, which is a little frustrating for electronics that don't have an ethernet port), and air-conditioned. The down-side was that it is cleaned by students who don't have an eye for detail....there was a whole bunch of dust and hair around the edges of the bathroom and kitchen floor. Towels were changed and trash emptied daily, but nothing else was touched housekeeping-wise.

We were shocked by the prices of lodging in Ottawa and turned off by the poor reviews of any which charged $100 or less per night. Here, you get a two bedroom unit with a nice kitchen and bath for $49 ($55 with taxes).

They have internet access (wired only using their supplied Ethernet cable), a large refrigerator/freezer, microwave and sink (but no coffee maker). Breakfast (good selection, but no eggs or hot stuff) is included. Parking is across the street, so schlepping bags is a bit of a challenge.

There is a good desk with large work area and TV in each bedroom -- plenty of closet space. This is not a luxury hotel by any means, but good comfortable lodging on about a 3-star level.

A small convenience store is in the hotel building. Bus service to downtown is a 1/4 mile walk. A very large shopping center with huge supermarket is 3 blocks away. It has drug, liquor, and clothing stores and restaurants. Secure bike storage is available.

The center of downtown is about a 6 mile drive. But be forewarned. Parking during the day is tough to find and expensive ($16 for 12 hours and up).
