We enjoyed the tour around Parliament and then went up the Peace tower, from where we could enjoy city views and keep dry. It's good that visitors can book tickets, and then explore the city until the given time. The guides seemed fairly knowledgeable and answered the visitors' questions well.

Beautiful architecture and a brief history lesson on Canada in the tours of both the grounds and the interior.

Don't miss the Library which is also the only room in the place which wasn't burnt during the fire in 1916. This room is built round so its walls do not touch any other walls in the building. Amazing room with elaborate shelves.

Separate tours for interior and exterior of Parliament Hill. I found the tours informative being a foreigner and a visitor although I was accompanied by Canadians living in Ottawa. Do pay a visit to the statue of Emily Murphy, especially the ladies. Canada was founded in 1867, but women were also seen as 'persons' only in 1929 October, after a 12-year movement led by Emily Murphy. She gathered four other women and they are known as The Famous Five who formed the 'give interested people' who could petition the government for a particular ruling on a constitutional point under the Supreme Court Act. I am thankful to this woman and her team.

Tickets can be difficult to obtain and you may have to get to the ticket office early.

This was a fabulous tour with a very knowledgeable and respectful guide. He explained all the expected features thoroughly and also contributed many fun anecdotes and interesting asides. Well worth the trip to Ottawa.

We did the free tours of the center block and outdoors. You go to the building across the street from Parliament to get tickets to the different tours. They allow about 25 ppl per tour so each tour has a specific time and there are different tours in French and English. The tours are all free and last from 45 min to approx 1 hour

Travelling with children we didn't opt for the guided tour, and there was a 45 min wait to climb the peace tower. However, the daily evening light show is an absolute MUST.
